  • Removing glue behind pinstriping?

I kind of did something stupid today because i was so sick of my pinstripes on my honda missing little pieces in areas that i got a razor blade and scraped them off . I did pretty good except on my fender i didn't know in one spot the bottom of the blade was dragging....doh . But the question is how do i remove the stuff, which im thinking is glue. Would the pc or scratchx remove it or do i have to get something that removes glue off paint. Here is a pic...

    Thanks ahead for the help.

ScratchX might work for that, but i'm not quite sure. I would also suggest looking into a "weatherstrip adhesive remover" 3M has a good product that I have used before.

Try WD-40, I used it to remove adhesive after taking off my Silverado nameplate. Goo-gone will work also. Just let them soak and heat from a hair dryer helps to soften the glue. Do not use a heat gun! I used the 3M but it was not as effective as the WD-40. Make sure you wax the areas as they will both remove wax!

Well i went to napa and they gave me this wax/grease remover stuff. It is starting to come off but boy oh boy am i working up a sweat trying to rub it off. Now im noticing i made little scratches where i started removing the pinstripe everytime it broke with the blade, a few spots i noticed i think it scraped a little of the clear coat off. I guess next time i will not be impatient and wait to buy that pinstripe remover i saw on adt. I guess i will have a big project tomorrow when i put the g100 to work and see if it will help some, i noticed a little difference in color where the pinstripes were. Let's see what a little m80 and 83 can do.

hi scarface! no problems you can use goo gone , but like you've notice you will leave scratches. the best and fastest way is to go get you some speedy 500 it's not cheap, i think the msrp is $43 i use to work at a big gm dealer ship for a very short while, anyway the stuff flat out brings tar- grease- sticker glue off with out you breaking a sweat and doesn't harm the paint.i'm the type of guy that does not like stickers or pin stripes at all so i've tried and done every thing to remove them without screwing the finish up. like i said this stuff is fast and easy to use. use a micro-fiber towl to spead the speedy 500 on and do a fender then go back and wipe off the glue residue, if you used a heat gun first to release the glue it's almost a wipe on wipe off deal. anyway hope i've helped .

Well, it feels like i scratchx'd by hand 2 whole cars but im finally done lol. I know i put swirl scratches in the paint by rubbing the cloth hard but ey that gives me an excuse to bring out my Meguiars toys tomorrow. I just hope most of it comes out. Its only a 93 civic ex, but its in great condition and ppl compliment it for being 14 yrs old and being a daily driver. Thanks for all the help btw. Now i'll know what to do in the future because someone at work was wondering the same thing to remove their pinstripes. Maybe since my car is old it was harder to remove them

My next thing is that peeling paint on the bottom of the window, I guess i can just peel the rest of it off and use the meguiars all metal polysh?
