  • Does NXT take off 26 ???

Yesterday I spent 4.5l hours cleaning, polishig, and protecting my GTI with the following

    1) Wash
    2) Clay
    3) #80
    4) #7
    5) #26 X 2
    6) NXT

I'm now being told that "NXT actually takes off the 26" is this true, and did I waste my time ?

This forum is here for people like me to learn from the pro's in maintaining our cars, so instruct me please.

Maybe a bit. If anything, one would usualy put #26 on top of Nxt.

But in the big picture, you are not applying multiple coats of wax to get '3 layers thick'. You are doing it to get uniform, even coverage, and maybe, just maybe, it is a little thicker.

So, you still have even coverage, and your car is still well protected. If you like how it looks, you might just try one coat of #26 next time topped with NXt, or Nxt topped with #26, to compare. 3 coats is maybe a little bit unessacery.

Thank you for the feedback. What I was looking for out of the two coats of #26 was a little depth of color with NXT providing the high gloss shine. If this was not the best choice of products what should I have used?

I'd put #26 on top. If you want to use NXT, use it before to help remove some light scratches and swirls then lock it in with #26.

        Try:

        1) Wash
        2) Clay
        3) #80
        4) NXT
        5) #7
        6) #26 X 2

Well, if it looks good to you, you can use the waxes in any order you like. Nothing wrong with that. People usualy choose to put the carnuba product on top, and synthetic on the bottom, but whatever looks and lasts good for you is fine.

You might want to do a couple panels, or sections in different combos. Do one door with #26 then Nxt, do another door with Nxt then #26, do a fender with 2 coats of Nxt, do the other fender with 2 coats of #26, and see if any of them look different to you.

As far as using a wax to remove swirls, that is only going to temporarily hide them, and using an order of steps such as polish-wax-polish-wax is really just repeating oneself.

It depends on the application technique as well. If you apply it gently by hand, you won't utilize the cleaning ability as much as you'd with a DA/light cutting pad/more pressure.
