ok, we got 2 saturns with base coat clear coat paint, i also have an old dodge dart wich has single stage, i am looking for a good wax that will work on bothe the saturns with the base/clear and the dart with the single stage? I looked at autozone and saw several waxes that said 'safe for all finishes including clear coat', just wondering if it is for both types of paint, does it work as well on one as it does the other and is it REALLY safe for clearcoates? I was leaning towards mguiars #26, but there were several others that were for both types of paint jobs.. want the cars to look good and shine like crazy!! I know zainos is the best but just looking to get something tomorrow to slap on for the time being to shine them all up.

Hi there welcome to the board. This is a great question!!
Take a look at this pic... This is ColorX which is an aggressive chemical cleaner wax...
Pretty good clean up of this single stage paint.
This is a pic of the new NXT wax only. This product contains cleaners also. Not as aggressive as ColorX though.
Not bad for a last step product.
Here's the ColorX topped with the NXT
So what's my point?? You could use NXT and get great results on your SS paint and CC paint also. The NXT has enough cleaning ability to remove oxidation from this car.
Before we got started.
Hope this helps your decision. For the Dart I would use the 2 step ColorX and NXT at a minimum. For the Saturns you could probably get away with NXT only.
As for #26 its a pure wax with no cleaning abilities so removal of the oxidation (esp the dart) would be minimal and not give the results and ease of use you're looking for.
Good luck!

Here's an old car with a single stage red paint job if you want to see how ScratchX, Deep Crystal Polish and Tech wax can transform hazy swirls into liquid, dripping wet finish
Tech Wax on a non-clear coat finish
Remember, the most important factor to influence your end-results will always be your prep-work.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys! well, good advice, but the bad part is that each of these cars has different needs at the moment, the dart needs exactly what you listed, a good cleaning and then waxed to get the oxidation off, really just oxidized pretty much,, now, one of the saturns also needs some attention, it has several 'scuffs' in it and is a little dirty, this is because the paint has been neglected and i want to get it looking good again, but the other saturn looks like brand new and shines and glosses so much, it just needs a good protectant wax every so often, i would hate to use any kind of cleaner wax on it because the paint is in such good shape, we just bought it and i belive it was detailed before we bought it. so, i dont want to but 10 different products so thats why i was wondering if there was something that would work on all 3? Would that new NXT hurt the saturn with the good finish already? also, these cleaning waxes dont hurt a clear coat? i always thought that the cleaner waxes that remove oxidation were meant for the single stage paints, too many questions..lol..sorry.Last edited by mopower440; Jul 25, 2004, 11:55 AM.

Just NXT on your good conditioned car will be perfect. NXT has extremely light cleaners that prepare the surface for its curing. I have used NXT on a new accord and the results are amazing. NXT is very very gentle. You can use it on any finish CC or not. For the second oxidized car I would reccomend the ColorX followed by NXT. Oxidation is common to two stage just as much as single stage paints. ColorX is CC safe and will give you great results. I have used ColorX on a 1989 Cressida that was severly oxidized with great success. You can easily get by with ColorX and NXT. Both are probably availiable at your neighborhood auto store.I sometimes judge people by the cleanliness of their car.

ok, for the saturn with good paint, you say use just the nxt, what about the gold class or #26, would those be ok also?
Next, for the other saturn that needs attention, ok, the paint isnt oxidized too bad, it mainly has scuffs and light scratches, do you still say colorx? I have some #7 and #9, would either of those take the place of the color x by chance to clean up the paint or do i still need the color x?Last edited by mopower440; Jul 25, 2004, 06:00 PM.

You can use either GC or 26 on the good one. They both are light on the cleaners. I would lean towards GC because it has some cleaners to prep the paint. The bad saturn's paint is perfect for ColorX. It will remove most scuffs and minor scratches and oxidation. Your paint will look GREAT. After the ColorX, top it with 26 or NXT (Not GC because I believe it has some medium cleaners).I sometimes judge people by the cleanliness of their car.

I think you should test each one out on a body panel. Which one looks better to you? My money is on ColorX because it was designed for oxidation.I sometimes judge people by the cleanliness of their car.
