  • Dc1, Dc2, Nxt

I just bought a new 2007 black Acura and want to keep the finish looking great and protect against sun damage. After reading the forums I'm thinking about using DC1, DC2 and then finishing off with NXT liquid wax every 6 months and use NXT liquid wax once every 2 months. What I was wondering is if the DC1 and DC2 are really necessary for my new car finish? Will it damage my finish? Would it be safer to use NXT liquid wax for the first two years and then as the finish starts to fade start using DC1, DC2 and then NXT?

I also wanted to know if the NXT will remove swirls or just "visually" remove them?

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

    hi,

congrats on your new car. DC1 and DC2 are completely safe to use on your new finish. the DC1 is a very mild cleaner and DC2 is a pure polish. Actually, you can use these 2 products every time you detail...the DC1 to mildly clean the paint without actually removing paint..preparing the finish for the pure polish to replace oils and give it a glossy wet look.

Or if you choose, you can do the initial DC1 ad DC2 and NXT,...and then just go for the NXT alone as you mentioned. Using the DC1 will remove dirt from the paint and prepare the clearcoat to accept new wax, thus removing the old wax.

You can also clay the finish first if necessary.

The NXT will not remove swirls as it's a polish/wax..but will assist in filling in swirls. The DC1 may do very little to remove the swirls..as you may need to use a product which is slightly more "aggressive" such as a cleaner/polish in Megs professional line. Or use scratch X..a lot of work by hand..or a cleaner/wax such as ColorX..

    Hope that helps...

      WELCOME TO MOL!!!

Congrats on the new purhcase. Pics please.

First and foremost, I'll explain a few things and then provide a few links for you to read and soak up more knowledge and then this way you can ask more questions if you get confused after.

So you picked up your car.

Have you inspected it under proper lighting conditions to check for swirls or anything?

Don't assume it comes swirl free from the dealer because it does not.

Are you doing this all by hand or using a PC G-100?

I'm writing all this under the assumption that you have the time and ambition to want a show car finish.

The Deep Crystal System(is part of the A-Line or Consumer Line) is a very mild cleaner, polish and wax. Having that said, it is still very good. It can accomplish the removal of VERY FINE, and LIGHT SWIRLS. Your best bet is to do a test spot.

Square off two 12 x 12 sections on the trunk lid. Cover one half with a Towel and then use the products you intend to use on the other half. Once you've finished this inspect your work and see if it has accomplished what you wanted.

Personally, if you have a DA, i'd skip the deep crystal system, just get some M80 (part of the Professional Line) -- forget DC1 and DC2. Use M80 or M82 with the PC, then follow with NXT Tech Wax with a W9006 polishing pad.

Working with a PC is more fun, more effective, and you will find that you can fully polish out your car with minimal effort in fast time. and plus it'll give you a more consistent uniform layer/protection of polish/wax.

If you decide to use the DC system this is what you would do.

      Wash
      Clay
      DC1
      DC2 or #7
      NXT x 2

      if you go with M80.

      Wash
      Clay
      M80
      #7
      NXT x 2

With regards to NXT. It will hide your swirls "A BIT" but I do want that. I want to remove the swirls and that's what you should want to. Do all the work now and then this way if you wash properly and take car of the finish you should have no problems. Meaning that if you remove all the swirls now with a full detail, every month or so you can add a nice coat of NXT. But if time permits if you're doing it every month, i'd just do another full detail if needed. I mean, every week or two I just do (mind you i have all the time in the world in the summer)

      Wash
      Clay
      NXT x 2

but every month or so I do the full detail checking for swirls and anything else I dont like. For your case, every month you could just do,

      Wash
      Clay
      DC1
      #7
      NXT x 2

      or if time permits

      Wash
      Clay
      Colour-X
      NXT x 2

You wont have to worry about your finish fading if you properly take care of it.

hope this all helps you out a bit.

This is all great information. I wasn't planning on using any equipment to detail my car. I was hoping that the dc1, dc2, nxt process could effectively be done by hand with minimal time. If I do use any equipment would it be more effective and take less time?

You do not have to use any 'equipment' I would guess you mean a polisher.

            You can use:
            1. Wash
            2. DC1
            3. DC2
            4. NXT

You will get good results.... I started with the DC system by hand and used it many years and had very good results. Now if you are looking to remove swirls, ScratchX would be your best option.

If you are looking into a polisher (PC) then yes, it will save you time and take much less effort and you will also get better results in the end.

              Re: Dc1, Dc2, Nxt

From my limited experience and from what I saw this past Thursday using a machine will save some time (and definately effort, you're only holding the thing) and the results are amazing with the #80 and some NXT.

I have primarily used DC1, DC2 and Wax in the past with great results. But the 80/NXT combo is just a bit better in my opinion from what I saw.

I mean there are hot women and then there are hot women, in a bikini and pawing all over you. Both are great..but the other is better.

Using a polisher seems pretty intense. On average how much time would it save?

Is scratch x safe for new cars? The bottle scratch x comes in is pretty small. Is it enough for an entire car?

                  Re: Dc1, Dc2, Nxt

Polishers are great but not needed as the hand products are fine and will work great. I suppose that using one would take only minutes of the final time but the product would probably be a bit more even and better applied than if done so by hand (I mean, really, the arm gets tired!).

ScratchX is completely safe for new cars, we even used it on my brothers new Rabbit last Thursday. It's a bit more aggressive than DC#2 Polish and can be done by hand too. Provides very good results when dealing with your average swirl marks and the bottle will last through a few cars.

                    Re: Dc1, Dc2, Nxt

DC#2 is a pure polish, so it has no real cleaning abilities.

So ScratcHX is going to be a lot more agressive than DC#2.

Is DC1 okay for a new car? I keep hearing about removing contaminants and scratch x leveling the paint to remove scratches. Is all this okay for a new car? Will the DC1, DC2, NXT by hand remove swirls and give my car the wet look without wearing down or damaging the new paint?

DC1 and ScratchX are very safe. You wont want to ScratchX every month, but the idea is to remove the swirls with ScratchX and then keep them out. DC1 you could use monthly for years.

And no, DC1 wont remove swirls, at least not well.
