  • Why not medium cut or diamond cut with G100?

Why won't this work? I know Meguiar's doesn't condone it, and I know I will likely induce a lot of scratches, but can't I just take those back out with finer and finer product?

    For example:

    1) Diamond cut with 7006
    2) 83 with 7006
    3) 83 with 8006
    4) 80 with 8006
    5) #9 with 8006
    6) #20 with 9006

All of the above with the G100.

Reason for my question: I just ordered a G100, but I'm afraid to use a rotary. Why not use the G100, which should take away as much as a rotary, then just take plenty of steps to bring the ultimate shine back?

I think all of my steps are technically correct (and maybe step 5 is overkill) except for steps 1 and 2 which are too abrasive for Meguiars' recommendation.

I believe those products may need the heat generated by the rotary to work well.

      No, not quite.

Rotary specific products require the mechanical energy to break down the diminishing abrasives that only a rotary can provide. The G100 is just too gentle. Moreover, if you use a rotary specific product with the G100, you may scour your paint severely so much so that you may require a rotary and an experienced user just to restore the gloss back to the paint. It is not as simple as using more steps with a PC/G100 as the PC has its limits.

Finally, Meguiar's also does not recommend using the W-7006 Cutting Pad with the G100 as it too was designed for the rotary. On some paints, it too can scour the paint requiring a rotary to correct the damage.

Just like fixing a car, mechanics must use specific tools for specific tasks where only that correct tool will work.

All right - I'll stick with 83 and an 8006. (and lots of passes).

        Thanks for the answers all.
