  • Finding out if #21 is still there or not

I am curious how will I find out if #21 is still on the paint or no?
Should I use the same method as wax the one that MP wrote?

and what's long lasting dressing for rubber? I want to make it black for really long. The rubber is on the sort of bullguard but for read end bumper protection. It's fading, I've tried trim detailer and aerosol exterior trim detailer but they don't last long for this part, which is funny, the other black trim are fine except this part.

There's no sure fire test but what's more important is actively maintain your car's finish, as in preventative maintenance. Just like you change your car's oil every 3000 miles, not because if you run the engine to 3005 miles it will fall apart, but because by changing the oil periodically you prevent the engine from failing. Same thing with car paint and other components and surfaces, periodically re-apply car wax to prevent it from failing versus waiting until there's no trace of any protection left and then doing some maintenance.

Nothing lasts for ever, off hand don't know which of our products will last the longest on the surface, could be NXT Tech Protect as it's water insoluble.

Rubber deteriorates fairly easily especially in the sun and when exposed to wet/dry wet/dry weather. The best thing to do is just like we typed above and that's maintain it

      Mike, thanks for answering.
I got this kind of problem actually. #21 lasts about 6 months, I read somewhere but the problem it's 6 months under US condition and polution or where? We got very poluted city down here and rains just about everyday so it won't last 6 mo. Imported #21 is crazy expensive down here, it's about U$80 for 64oz, what I am trying to do is to safe as much as possible. I need to know that if I have to re-apply every 3 months or so and knowing that the car is well protected as well because every drops count hehe.

I just used #21 for the first time on Saturday. I covered a 2007 Honda Civic Sedan with 4 or 5 oz. From the 64-oz., I filled up my 12-oz. dispenser bottle and used maybe a third of the bottle, if I'm remembering correctly. That's by hand and includes door jams and clearcoat wheels.

So you've got about a 4-year supply there. At your price, just be careful filling the dispenser bottle.

I'll be going to the machine next time, but plan on doing it at least every 3 months. I have 2 daily drivers to keep up with and so more often isn't realistic for me, unless my wife gets this detailing bug.

Meguiar's never makes any claims as to how long a wax will last for the reasons you cited... no control over how the car will be treated or the environment to which it is exposed to.

As a general recommendation, we recommend people wax their cars 2-3 times a year. This is a minimum benchmark, if you're expectations for how your car looks is higher than most and you're concerned over maintaining maximum protection, then you should probably be waxing a lot more frequently.

Hagfan: I am offering express detail to customers so it won't last that long.

MP: Taking consideration of the harsh condition down here, I am assuming, normal cleaner/wax would last up to 1 month and #21 would last about 2-3X as long under the same condition. That's my opinion. I have to justify why people should upgrade from cleaner/wax to #21 and that's how I am gonna do it.

That sounds like you are using way too much. I think I use maybe an ounce, probably half to do a smaller car. If you paint is less than perfect, you will end up using more. Two thin coats are better than one thick one. You should barely be able to see the product after it has dried.
