  • Hot Rims All Wheel Cleaner: is it really safe for all wheels?

I recently saw bottles of the G 9524 Hot Rims All Wheel Cleaner. It says on the label that it is "safe for all factory coated wheels". Is this really true?

I would like to know if it is "ACID-FREE". I have a Honda with factory wheels and I was told, at the dealership, to NEVER use anything with acid in it, on these wheels.

I have read elsewhere that, even if a wheel cleaning product says it is "safe" and/or "acid-free", it can still have acid in it, but not listed anywhere on the label.

If anyone has any information, please post a reply.

    Thanks in advance!

I bought the All Wheel cleaner too. I figure it is truly safe for all wheels! But I was wondering if there's a more specialized product I should buy -- I have no idea what my wheels are, I have stock rims on my 07 Accord. Looks like two different finishes of aluminum but IDK clearcoat etc

        Thanks in advance!

Re: Hot Rims All Wheel Cleaner: is it really safe for all wheels?

            Hi Guys,

Good questions about our product and your wheels. If the wheel is a factory (GM, Ford, BMW, etc) clear coated wheel or chrome, the Hot Rims All Wheel Cleaner will be safe to use. As with ANY wheel cleaner, I always recommend that you clean and dry ONE wheel at a time. If you are not sure about the type of wheel that you have, contact the manufacture. I use this product all the time on the wheels of my personal vehicle, along with light agitation and a thorough rinse, It does a fantastic job!!
Regardless of the product always read ALL "instructions and warnings for use" of products for your car.

If you have aftermarket rims that are not chrome, I recommend that you use our Multi Piece Wheel Cleaner G14124 instead.

Hope this helps clears things up!!!

Re: Hot Rims All Wheel Cleaner: is it really safe for all wheels?

Thanks for posting the information so quickly, but I would still like to know if the G 9524 Hot Rims All Wheel Cleaner contains any acid.

I use several Meguiar's products and I would like to know, to be sure.

I was told at the Honda dealership to use only regular car wash soap on the wheels. If that didn't clean off tough dirt, I could use "Dawn" dishwashing liquid on the wheels.

I was told that the little "H" in the middle of the wheels, would eventually turn from silver, to a "bleached-out" white, if any wheel cleaners containing acid, came in contact with the wheels.

              Thanks in advance!

Re: Hot Rims All Wheel Cleaner: is it really safe for all wheels?

I use this product all the time on my stock Neon wheels (as well as my new TSW wheels) and on my stock Yukon wheels (as well as the Ultra wheels on it now) and have suffered no ill effects. They are either painted or machined clear coated wheels to which I have put a coat of NXT wax on them and they look great and the Yukon wheels have survived 2 winters (I think) of no problems to the delight of my local tire dealer who thought they would not last through the winter without some problems.

Hope this helps. I would not have used it if it didn't say Meguiars and ALL WHEEL cleaner on it. I have tried the Eagle One all wheel and tire cleaner but a bottle does not last as long as the Meguiars.

All Wheel Cleaner is so aggressive? can damage the delicate bright black surface? discoloration?

                      I am very worried

If your wheels are the ones that were fitted to the car at the factory then All Wheel Cleaner will be perfectly safe on them. But it is important to use it properly. That means only on cool wheels, and work on one wheel at a time from start to finish - spray the product onto the wheel, let it dwell for a few seconds, agitate with an appropriate wheel brush or wash mitt, and then completely rinse with water before moving on to the next wheel. This is NOT a mist and wipe product, meaning you do NOT spray it on and then just wipe it off.

But if you let it dwell for a few MINUTE?, what happens? and maybe on hot wheels?

Be carefull using this stuff. Alot depends on the age of the wheels. It will stain wheels. Read the instructions. Hot wheels is a no-no. It will stain them. It is pretty harsh stuff. IMO it is for people who do not keep up with a regular wash and who do not want to or have the time to put some effort into hand washing them every time they wash the car. If you put some time into them every wash then you can use a milder wheel cleaner to get the job done. Why use some kind of an acid based cleaner on your wheel? There are better ways.
