Re: Live in Apartment, where to wash my car?

When I first moved into a apartment complex, I was in the same situation. Were to wash my car. Saw a local do it yourself place went in and asked the owner if I could wash with my bucket off peak hours etc. He was hemming and hawing so I offered him $10 for the use of his facilities and he let me do it that way for 18 months till we moved. Maybe the guy that does not feel right about using the car washes facilities could offer the owner some cash and everyone would be happier.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with doing this during "off peak" hours like after dark or before 7 AM. You are still paying the money for the hose and water in the bay. If there is no one there you aren't taking up too much time. You may want to give some extra money in the "tip jar" when you see the owner though. It's a good way to ensure that you don't have problems.

I live in an apartment too, and what I have found works best is to use some quick detailer in the mourning before you drive your car. This way, you get off all that stuff while the car is still damp from the morning dew instead of having the dirt and **** dry on the paint.

Works great! Never have to take it to any kind of car wash.

You could always call a good mobile detailer to come and wash it for you!

Robert, what part of San Jose you live by maybe you can do those 25 cent car washes near your area in San Jose. I lived in San Jose my entire life until July 1st 2006 thats when I moved to Gilroy. I usually wash my car good then keep it up with Quick Detailer and a microfiber cloth. What shine shop said about using a family or friends house is a good idea too! So just wash the car good somewhere like those 25 cent ones or a friends house and in the morning do the QD and it should stay clean! Or if your up to it we can meet up and wash it since we live so close.

I say talk to the owner. I talked to one and he said just as long as I am not holding up the line it was fine with him. I told him I would keep the meter running for the time I was there. He said not to bother, it sits empty otherwise and doesn't cost him any extra for me to wash by hand. The other one that I go to I could never find anyone working there and there was no sign so I took a chance. The owner caught me one day while I was bucket washing. He walked in the wash bay and said, "beautiful truck". I asked if he minding me bucket washing when it was slow. He said, "Not at all, you have to if you want to keep black looking good."

I live near a car wash that is $5.00 for a half hour of water/washing. I just go and bring a bucket. I'm done before the half hour is up. They don't mind at all.

Also, my garage and house would still be standing, but I don't want anyone stopping in to use them.
If I walk by and you are in them, I probably won't just smile.

Don't be such a hard-on. Back in the day, when I didn't have access to water, I would go to these wash bays usually before dusk and bucket wash, even though it says not to. Alot of them are open 24 hrs. There was never any line, and if there happened to be an attendant there, I said hello and he returned the favor.

Go at noon on a Saturday after a storm when the owner's there, well then your an idiot for attempting that. A bit of common sense goes a long way.
