  • Removing Shine from Leather seats

Purchased a new MazdaSpeed 3 in late December. Decided this past weekend to go ahead and use the Meguiars Gold Class leather wipes on the seats. They work great, but I am not too fond of the ultra shiny look the seats have now. The finish from the factory was a matte black.

I have a couple of questions. First, will the shine eventually go away even on the leather surfaces that see little to no usage (i.e. back seat)? If not, what is the best solution to get them back to their original state. Would a moist cotton towel work? Would this damage the leather?

Big fan of Meguiars products, it's just that the wipes didn't suit my taste.

    Thanks for any help.

i use GC cleaner and conditioner and it does not give my seats any shine, they look natural. you can also use QID.

Would it be ok to use the cleaner/conditioner so soon after using the wipes?

Ive used those before and they seem to be a bit glossy.

I use the Gold class in a bottle now and it seems to do great.. If it is still to shiny for you, just leave it on over night then wipe the seats with a MF the next morning. It would also help if the vehicle is in the sun so the seats will warm up.

Anyway, thats what I do with my steering wheel. I dont want it to be slick, so I let the conditioner sit on it over night, then wipe it the next morning.

I tried using a cotton t-shirt to get it up, but it isn't working. Maybe microfiber will do the trick then. The stuff has been on my seats since Saturday. I have noticed that on my seat it has allready worn off on the side bolsters.

Would using a damp t-shirt to try and get it up make a difference?

I realize this is a Meg's site.... but I shall make this post anyway. I first used the Meg's leather wipes on my black leather seats in my Mustang. I did not like the shine, nor did I prefer the smell of it. My husband said it smelled like dog wash. I started using armor all leather wipes... no smell and no shine. I like them alot. It's the only non-meg's product I use.

As for getting off your current shine. Try a cheap-o buffing type microfiber... like one from Auto zone. I use those for interior buffing and they work fine for me.
