You can rinse or wipe to be honest.

Provided you do not let the white milky film dry, it is harmless. The wet, milky film claying leaves behind will not scratch the car, nor will a good quality, clean microfiber or 100% pile terry.

You can wipe if you wish, but wipe well. If you are concerned, wipe with a dry towel, then damp towel, then another dry.

I personally do it differently each time to see what works best. I have never had a problem with clay. It is quite safe provided the clay is clean, surface is lubed, and the clay residue isn't left to dry.

Lately I Wash, Rinse, Re-Soap areas with a weaker soapy mixture that will not create a lot of suds, I clay, then I rinse again. I never allow clay residue or water spots to remain on the paint. I keep the car wet until I am ready to dry it. Then I chase after the water spots.

Re: Claying for the very first time...

I've only done clay once, which makes me an expert of sorts.

I used the Smooth Surface Clay kit, which comes with the Quik Detailer, a MF towel, 2 clay bars and the soapbox for clay storage.

Since I wanted to learn from what I'd read. I dried the car first and then did the plastic baggie test and, yes, I could feel the contaminates even on a new car finish.

I think I'll stick to drying it off, as the QD wipes nicely away. Besides, I like to have things nice and dry before using the wax. If you've rinsed too recently, some water will usually seep on to the paint from beneath the trim as you get close to the seams.

Hate to bring back an old thread, but I have someone thats wanting to clay for the first time and I was looking for a thread about claying. I know there was a good one a few months back but idk if it got lost is the forum changes. Looked in the HOW TO and HOT TOPICS but nothing about claying is in there. Anyone got any help?
