Well M85 is for use with a wool pad on a rotary buffer only - is this the tool you're working with?

Then you'll want to stick with M83 as M85 doesn't work well with foam.

The most important thing you can do when working with M83 with a rotary buffer is to clean you pad often and don't overuse your product. When we say clean you pad often we mean after each section you work on, take a moment to clean your pad. You'll find it easier to work fresh product on a new section. If you have extra pads, swap out to a clean dry pad as you move around the car.

i only have 2 white 3M pads as of now (eggshell shape) because its easy to locally get ahold of! cleaning the pads, you mean with water and dawn and all this ? isnt it soaking the pad and slinging water everywhere after this ? (after wringing it a mean) cant be good for the buffer ?
