  • Is there a point to stepping down from #83 to#80?

If you have a base coat clear coat and you have swirls and #80 with a DAP doesnt remove them you may need to step up to #83 and start from there. Now this is where my question starts If I use #83 with my DAP the product will cut and then break down and start to polish because of the microscopic diminishing abrasives. Why would you do a second pass of 80 after the 83. I thought the 83 will polish just like the 80 only it starts off more aggresive. somebody please set me straight Thanks Rich

    Every paint system is different

That's a good statement to remember. Some paint systems will clean up with M83 really well and be perfectly ready for application of wax. Others will show micro-marring and will require a second step using a less aggressive product to remove the micro-marring, thus the M80 or the M82 or even M66

remember, polishing paint to perfection an art form that usually requires more than one or two steps, so achieving your the results you want kind of depends upon your expectations and how the paint on the car your working on is reaction to the polishing process. Because...

Ok good advice as usual. Its Funny how I can get so overwhelmed by all of the products and wonder what they are all for and then you say one sentence that clears it all up "every paint system is different." I understand now.Go with what works. Thanks again Mike You are a great teacher.

Read about Jack in the link you included in your reply. I must say you really had a good teacher and how about the passion he puts into his work, traveling around like that and setting up in car shows, at age 70 it would have been amazing for someone to be doing that but 81 WOW , that post in SCG was a year ago so that makes him 82 now. I'm just 33 and it seems like he has more energy than I have. Nice story there about you and Jack. Hope you get to teach us and hold classes till your like 99 and retire and take a break at 100 .
