  • How soon to wax a new car?

This has probably been covered before, but since I just got a new car, suddenly I need to know!

I just took delivery of a new Mustang. Because I had ordered it, I know that the car was built in the first week of February.

Maybe this is a silly question, but is it safe to wax yet?

    Congratulations on the new ride!

Typically with new paint wait 30 days. I would say get some wax on it now.

yes, you can wax your new car right away.

the cars that come from the factory are cured in the oven sort of speak and so its safe to go ahead.

        wash it nicely.
should be good to apply a nice coat of NXT followed by 21.

        what you using to apply?

          Thanks.

I had been using NXT for quite a while, but for the last few waxings on my other cars I used Gold Class paste wax - and really enjoyed it!

I've been into detailing for quite a while - actually went to two workshops at Meguiars. I use a PC on my larger vehicles, but like to do it by hand on the smaller ones. (I've got five vehicles!)

FYI my three "toy" cars are darker colors (2 metallic greys and a red) and our 2 daily drivers are white.

#26 might be worth a try on your metallic paint. looks really nice with those metallics.

                PICS PLEASE!!!

I've never used 26, but I'll give it a try. Since the car is new, can I apply right after a wash, or should I prep with something else?

You could apply a wax directly after washing, but I'd reccomend a Pure polish, since your fresh paint should not need any repair work. I'd give it a nice wash, prep with some DC2, or any accessable pure polish, and follow up with two thin coats of wax.

                      Sounds like a good plan.

This car presents kind of a weird dilemma for me. It's the first time I've had a dark car as a daily driver - and for me, that means over 500 miles a week.

My other daily drivers have always been white - a quick wash and annual weekend detail were all they really required (and what they got ). I think this one's going to need a bit more care, but I also don't want to spend every weekend working on it. We'll have to see what works.

                      It's all fun stuff!

Thanks for your comments and feedback guys. (From your pics, looks like we're kind of a Mustang subcommittee here! )

I'll probably do my first "detail" next weekend. I've ordered #26, but probably won't have it by then. I think I've got enough NXT to wax the space shuttle so that might be how I go this time if the #26 isn't delivered by Saturday. (I had switched to Gold Class paste after buying two bottles of NXT!)
