  • first time detail on a '91 BMW

Hi, I am 17(as of yesterday) and have a white 1991 BMW 318i. Last weekend I clay barred it for the first time and was amazed at the results. Everytime I walk by the car I run my hand over it because it is so smooooooth. Here are some pics of the car after claying:

I got some Deep Gloss Polish for my next step, but have yet to buy a Gold Class Applicator pad and Deep Gloss Carnauba wax. I am doing the car by hand. You guys have any tips on polishing and waxing for me before I tackle my car?

    Thanks.

      NXT x 2

you're using Gold Class.i perfer NXT over that. personal perference that's all. i feel it gives a better shine and beading is better.

I want to learn how to use a rotary before I buy one and screw up my whole car. Well I am off to buy the stuff right now, maybe I'll see if they have any ScratchX too.

Even if you don't have any swirls or scratches to remove, simply follow the steps outlined here and you're sure to be successful!

            Hey, nice job...
I've been using Meguiar's since I can remember, but it wasn't until about two years ago that I started to use the good stuff. I'm 18, so I understand the age group.

Yeah, as others suggested, get the Deep Crystal Series steps 1, 2, and 3. This is an excellent system for people who work by hand. Plus, it won't break the budget and will offer some stunning results.

Now for the rotary, I would wait a while. The PC can remove a lot of defects and is much easier to handle. If you want a buffer, then those Craftsman buffers (7in and 10in) are cheap ($40), but they won't remove many defects. I would wait a while on the rotary because of the long learning curve.

i disagree. i think if you think you're ready adn you're willing to try. go ahead. just get some test panels from the wreck first. there is a long learning curve, only if you let yourself be scared of it.

but i do agree i'd go with a PC first.
