  • The Ol' Black Paint Question

First off let me say Hello
I'm new to this site but have been using the product as long as I can remember.
First time i used Quick detail I was amazed..
    That was many years ago...

    My question here is
I just bought a New Motorcycle with a custom paint set ..
It's Black Ice with Black Flames ..
Paint work was done by Harley Davison and must be at least a year old
considering the Bike is a 2006 ( Fully cured Paint )

The Problem I have is I took the bike to the dealer for a routine check-up
The kid they have work there thought he was doing me a favor by wiping
    down the paint dry..

Under 100 miles and scarred already

Now I have light scratches out the wazooo.
I tried the Mequiars products I have which are the tried a true three step
you can pick up at your local Auto Parts store..
Nothing worked..So I picked up a bottle of 3M scratch and swirl remover.

Not only did it not remove all the scratches, it gave me a Spider web
    looking shine.

    I worked everything by hand..

I do have an adjustable speed Snap On buffer and willing to buy what I need to .. Pro Series Product , Consumer series..what ever it takes.

How do I safely remove the scratches and now Spider web swirls.

Going back to the dealer is not an option ...
I no longer trust there judgement and will take care of it with my own two
    hands if at all possible.

    Thanks for any help,

    Rick

    Welcome to MOL!

Sounds like you are doing it by hand.... might not be that difficult considering its a motercycle.

Re: The Ol' Black Paint Question

Just read that post right after I asked this question...
Also noticed I was the thousan't person to ask that..
      Is thousan't a word ?????
I'm in the OnLine store now ...
      Doin a little shopping..

I also have a Black 66 Chevelle that would be jealous if it seen I've been
buffing the bike and not Her...

I really hope this works ...
I'll make sure to stick with the post right down to the towels and applicators.

Sorry if I made anyone think ..
      USE THE SEARCH BUTTON !!!!!!
I figured swirls are different then scratches ..but they seem to go hand in
      hand with the removal proccess.

Re: The Ol' Black Paint Question

Hey, no problem. Even if we just point you in the right direction we will. Thats one thing that makes MOL great, no smart comments on about not using the search button and so on, everyone is here to help.

Sounds like you are on the right track, you do need to get some quality towels and applicators like used in the post. You don't want to remove the swirls then add them back with your towels.

Just keep in mind scratchX is going to take a little effort to work the product in and remove the swirls. Its not a wipe on wipe off product. Once you have applied ScratchX, polish and then apply your favorite wax and you are set!
