  • Advice for a newb??

Howdy from Houston!! I just purchased my first black vehicle a Chevy Silverado 1500 HD. Man I love the black color but I never knew about swirl marks till I got this truck. Upon buying the truck I became the newest lifelong custome for Mequiar's products. I DO LOVE EM!!! Well with christmas coming I put this onto my wish list Package #4 DA Polisher Professional Show Car Kit. this was from Auto Detailing Soulutions website. Listed below is the items it comes with

    1 Meguiar's G100 Polisher (Lifetime Warranty)
    1 Backing Plate.
    3 W8006 Foam Polishing Pad
    1 W9006 Foam Finishing Pad
2 Super Plush Microfiber DA Bonnets
1 C2000 Mild Clay Bar (Large)
1 D15532 Last Touch Spray Detailer 32 oz.
    1 M8332 Dual Action Cleaner/Polish 32 oz.
    1 M0716 Show Car Glaze 16 oz.
1 G12718 NXT Tech Wax 18 oz. (Comes with 1 Applicator Pad)
    1 M4016 Vinyl & Rubber Cleaner/Conditioner 16 oz.
1 G13005 All Metal Polysh 5 oz. Paste
    1 X-3070 Foam Applicator Pads 2-Pack
    5 16x16 Microfiber Towels
    1 Duffel Bag

Oh and I am getting the DVD as well. My question is do you see any holes that need to be filled in order for me to get and keep this black beauty looking like wet ice?

I will be practicing on my riding lawn mower, golfcart, and my old 97 Dodge pickup before I tackle the black beauty.

    Thanks in advance!!!

If you just got your truck it is probably in good condition. Get yourself some #80. #83 is great but you probably wont need it right off the bat. #80 is a very versitile product that will prove it self over and over again. I use it 2 - 3 times as fast as my #83. Watch the DVD twice before even picking up your DA and take notes and you will get really good results even faster.
You left out licking the water off. Oh, wait a minute, that's my cat, not my car. Uh, I mean my cat licks himself dry. I don't lick my cat dry. Or my car. -PC.

I agree, with a newer vehicle, 80 would probably suffice. When I ordered mine, I opted for package #2 and added a bottle of 83 and an extra pad or two so I'd be prepared if I needed it. I too have a newish black car and it works just fine for my purposes. But definitely get the DVD. -Tony

        Nice ride!

The best way to deal with swirl marks is to minimize your risk of getting them. What about washing? Don't even think about getting all that and not getting a grit guard. I'd get a wash brush or some wash mitts also, and some wash soap. For drying I use a water blade and water magnet.

Well the truck is a 2005 model it only had 19K on it. Looked damn good too!! You can tell the previous owner used a brush at a local car wash no real bad swirl marks but they are still there in places. It had water spots on it to and I used vinegar to get rid of those and I must admit it looks damn sweet but I know I can make it look better. I am too proud of it not to make it shine like a penny. I am a firm believer in gathering as much knowledge as I can before I tackle a new project. The DVD will be watched several times before, during and after. HA HA. What are yalls thoughts on drying such a big truck, I have only used MF towels in the past. I would say with fair results.

Well , the Water Magents are the best mf towel Meguiars has for drying, some people like the Water Blade that ADS sells, followed up with a Water Magnet.

Also depends how much money yo ucna put in, or what else can go on your list, as far as spares of pads, extra towels, bonnets, applicators.

And I definately agree with dont skimp on the washing stuff.

Just thinking.. a jug of APC or APC+ would hit the spot, and Hyper-Dressing for any interior/exterior plastic trim, tires, etc that need dressed.

More microfiber towels. Always more microfiber towels. No such thing as too many.

Well lemme ask you this. All of these acronyms you guys use can get kinda confusing. If the above kit has products in it that I probalby don't need. What would you guys recommend for a good arsenal of products to get my Black truck looking like a show car and maintaining it both inside and out. Also what order would you use these products that you are listing?

                    Thanks
