  • Swirl mark help!

have always been meticulous when it comes to detailing my trucks. I use Meguiars car wash formula, soft lamb skin mitts, and 3 step clean-polish-wax system, with clay bar as needed. I had a '00 Ford 350 that looked flawless after 6 years.

I bought a new 2006 white Dodge 3500 about 3 months ago. I continued on just like I would with my Ford. The only thing I changed was that I switched to microfiber mitts(from Lambskin) and microfiber drying cloths(from cotton). My truck is washed once a week(sometimes twice). I was getting ready to clean, polish, and wax before the cold weather gets here and I noticed in the sun a ton of swirl marks/cobwebs in the paint. There are way more than there should be. (more than my old truck ever had) I am very confident in my practices and very careful not to contaminate my wash mitts. I tried briefly using paint cleaner, polish, and scratch X and did not see any difference. My products that I used were probably a little old and had been stored in the heat of the garage over the summer.

First question is how can I go about getting them out. Can I do it by hand? Do i need a stronger cut? Do I need a body shop? (don't want to)

Second question is what else could be causing this pre-mature wear?

It's driving me crazy! Thanks for the help

    Re: Swirl mark help!

    Hi gmack9,

    Welcome to Meguiar's Online!

Interesting results, makes a person wonder if the paint on the Dodge is more prone to swirls and scratches as compared to the Chevy? Or if it is in fact the switch to different wash mitts and drying materials?

Regardless, if ScratchX isn't removing the swirls and scratches by hand then you should consider moving up to machine polishing with a dual action polisher such as our G100.

If you're interested in this we can supply you with more information, such as this thread,

Will I notice a difference if I use the G-100

So can microfiber do harm to a finish when drying?
