I am learning at a fast pace, now my question is I have very small swirl marks in my Dodge Neon Orange Blast paint.
I use the following:
Wash Gold Glass carwash-Microfiber sponge (use new bucket for the wheels-two bucket wash I presume).
Dry with Microfiber towels.
clean interior to let the outside completely dry. Using Meguiars Natural shine and quick detailer (on the glass too, works great I might add) and a good vacuum (take seats out sometimes!!)
Use Meguiars Clay bar and QD with supplied MF towel.
Use Meguiars Cleaner wax applied with cheapie orbital polisher (6" spins and wobbles, one speed)with a Microfiber pad.
Wipe wax off with MF towel.
Apply NXT wax by hand with supplied foam applicator (paste wax).
remove wax with MF towel. I do one panel at a time, like fender, half door etc etc. I use light pressure and my whole hand and change towels and sides a lot.
My Microfiber towels are cleaned in a top loader with Tide liquid, no softner and hung dried and stored in a plastic bucket in the house. I cleaned my applicators with dawn and threw them in with the MF stuff in the wash. The towels don't feel rough at all.
My swirls are very light and only on the very flat surfaces which I believe is where my aggresiveness with the orbital comes to play. On the hood and the roof.
My question is I have been looking at the PC of course (out of my price range right now) and the foam pads. Could my microfiber pad on the orbital be causing my swirls, the pad seems gummed up by the time I'm done with the car and seems rough, I bought them with the thought that mf is softer than say the wool or other applicators. I have been reading on how much pressure to put on the polisher and actually just let the machine to the work with little pressure by me. I can't remember what other pads are sold (the slip on stuff) at our Schucks. I live in rural No. California and our stores are limited to Wally World, and a Carquest store.
The car does look great when I'm done (no recent pictures, sorry, not near as bad as the swirls I've seen in the "Show Off and Extreme Makeover" forums, but they are there). I take great pride in how my cars look and very careful and didn't quite pay that deep attention to the finish. I have had people comment on how our rigs look when I'm done but the miniscule swirls are there and bug me (now!). I would like to approach the art you all have when detailing. I think that Orange Blast and the Gold on my Yukon would look awesome when done correctly. To which I've been taking notes and leaving suttle hints to the little woman of what products I would like to get. The PC of course, 83, 80, 26 and of course NXT with the proper pads etc.
Thanks for your time
Aaron
