  • taking off paint overspray and steps back to a nice finish

Hello, I got some red overspray from a idiot painting about 75 feet away from my brand new black chevy crew cab. I tested out a small area using a clay bar and most of it comes off but it leaves very small scratches in the clearcoat from the clay bar I guess. these are the steps I was going to take and maybe some of you can give me some good pointers since I am pretty new to this type of stuff.

1 wash the truck, then dry
2 use the clay bar to remove the paint overspray
3 wash the truck to remove the clay residue then dry again
4 use meguiars scratch x to remove the light scratches
5 use meguiars 26 paste wax to wax the truck

should I wash again after using the scratch x? any other suggestions? I will be removing the scratch x and the wax by hand so any special procedure? I have heard that you shouldnt go in circles with the wax.. is that true?

    Welcome to MOL!

Sorry to hear about the overspray. I have some to remove off a vehicle for a friend just need to find the time and good weather.

There is no need to wash after ScratchX, you can go straight to your wax. Here are a couple threads that will help you out.

Make sure you use plenty of quick detailer as lube and dont press too hard, let the clay do the work, and the scratches will be smaller or non-existent!
It will never be clean enough!

thanks for the link. it is amazing what the scratch x did to that car. mine is not nearly as bad as that. I may look at adding some polish to the routine before the wax so that I can get a deep glossy shine on the black paint.

Youve really got to work that stuff in to get results like that.. You cannot just rub it on and back off.

Has anyone seen the new scratch-x that can be used with the PC? Wonder if it would be easier to use than #80(by easier I mean Im a noob and cannot figure #80 out, hehe)?
