  • Interior Detailing

I just bought a new Acura RL, with leather seats and thousands of pinholes. I read a couple posts from people that used the GC leather conditioner creme and plugged up the holes. Would the GC leather wipes or GC leather spray be best for this? For the rest of the interior vinyl trim, what's the difference between GC Protectant Wipes, GC Cleaning Wipes, Quik Interior Detailer Wipes, GC Vinyl Rubber Protectant, Quik Interior Detailer and NXT Gen Tech Protect. I prefer a dull or satin dry feeling surface, not shiny or wet.

For your leather seats, I would suggest using the Gold Class Rich Leather Cleaner and Conditioner Spray. Spray it onto a microfiber first, and then wipe on the seats. This will prevent it from getting into the perferation.
As for the the vinyl dash, if you like a matte or natural look, you might try M40 Vinyl and Rubber Cleaner/Conditioner. It is my personal favorite and a great product.

If your leather seats get really dirty, use the step 1 aloe cleaner. The technique with that is have a terry cloth and squirt some onto it, then fold part of the terry cloth over and flatten the product out so it's even on the end of the terry cloth and then gently start wiping the cleaner over the preforated leather and then working the stains or dirty parts out. Use another towel to wipe off the rest of the product. Then follow up with a conditioner. I don't like using the two in 2 products as they won't clean as well and imo the wipes leave a shiny coating. The liquid 2 in 1 is good stuff but the smell is a little overwhelming. I just use the GC aloe Cleaner, with Lexol conditioner/or the Aloe Conditioner.

Thanks. Could you point me to a place on the web site or perhaps a post that compares the qualities of the eight interior vinyl products?

So other than monitoring what each other uses and likes here, how do know what the qualities of each product is? Where on the site is M40 Vinyl & Rubber Conditioner? Way too many products to deal with.

                #40 Vinyl & Rubber Cleaner/Conditioner

Well, the problem is that while it seems like a vinyl dash is a vinyl dash, they can actualy end up looking different in different cars from the same product.

I love the look of the Nxt Tech Protectant on my dark gray textrued dash, though I do buff of excess to make it more of a satin finish. But some folks cant get that satin look, esp if their dash isnt textured.

Natural Shine looked pretty satin-matte right form the start when I used it, on a tan, fairly untextured dash, though I still buffed off excess.

Hyper-dressing is kind of a do-all, but even then you have to find the dilution ratio that matches what you like in your car.

Great idea. Unfortunately there is no comparison page at this time. You have already basically chosen for yourself by the needs you have described. As far as vinyl/rubber products for use on your interior it generally comes down to desired gloss and preferred method of application. From what you have described, John Keeling's recommendations are right on. I would add one thing however; if you want absolutely no gloss the Quik Interior Detailer would be the best choice. Understand though, that it is just like the QD for the exterior. It is designed for use as maintenance and not a replacement for something else. The intended purpose is for use between applications of the Vinyl & Rubber product you choose. Since it's introduction over a year ago I have spoken to several consumers who are using it as their sole interior product because it does offer some UV protection and can be used on any interior surface. The choice is yours, but I thought you should be aware of it's intended usage. Hope this is helpful.

I second (or is it third or fourth? I lost count) the recomendation for #40. It leaves a nice matte finish, not dry looking but not oily looking at all. It's good for cleaning and protecting, and if you have some tougher stuff to clean off, just rub it in a little harder. It's a great product IMO.

I have all those holes too. I use the 2 Step System for actual cleaning. Some of the holes get plugged up, but after you drive around a couple of times, it goes away. I use the spray for quick detailing.

I love the look of Natural shine. It seems to work great on my dash since Ive taken care of it, but on customers cars it doesnt work to well. I notice I must use two coats to get them looking good.

I wonder if dashes seem to soak up more when they arent well cared for?

I would think thats what it is. Tires do the same thing. If Im detailing a car thats never had tire shine, it takes many coats to get them looking good.

                              F-150,

You use Lexol conditioner or Meguiars Aloe conditioner.
Did you have opportunity to compare Lexol leather cleaner and Meguiars Aloe Cleaner?
