  • #21 after cleaner wax ok?

Weather permiting, shooting for a long day w/ the car tommorrow. The plan was to:

    -Wash w/ NXT
    -Scratch-X
    -Cleaner Wax
    -#21

Not going to clay since I did it all of the horiztontal surfaces about a month ago, and not much of anything showed up on the clay. Just a little orange here and there?!?! Anyway, would this be ok, or should I just skip the cleaner wax and put 2 coats of #21 on?

BTW: This is a new car, about 2 months old now. DeepWater Blue Sonata. Very little swirls, can only be seen ever so slightly in certain spots in the right light. I guess I got lucky w/ the DISO. Just have 2 or 3 1/2-1 inch scratches I have to get some touch up paint for. Working all by hand also.

    Thanks.

You could skip cleaner wax and still have great results, however, you will miss out on the polishing oils in cleaner wax. I think cleaner wax provides a very nice shine and gloss. So, the combination that you posted should look very nice!

you will be fine using a cleaner wax before your lsp. many on here use colorx (excellent all in one cleaner wax) before applying nxt, etc.. on top for the added protection.

The cleaner/waxes have polishing oils... no need to worry.

          hmm,
Cleaner Wax mute my metallic flakes to some extent where as ColorX did not.
But if your paint is not metallic, then no worries.
It should be a good combo, good luck.

Just to add, if you are happy with the results Cleaner Wax gives you, just stick with it.

Although it does not make metallic pop as much, the gloss and shine is still pretty outstanding, it is a great product, even without any Last-Step Products(LSPs) on it.

Re: #21 after cleaner wax ok?

I've been very happy w/ the cleaner wax the 2 times I've used it, but the goal was to put something on a bit more durable for the winter. So after washing and scratchx, I put on a coat of cleaner wax, followed by a coat of #21. The #21 looks oily or streaky in some places. I'm hoping that was because I didn't shake the bottle enough, because I left it to dry for an hour before I wiped off since it was only around 50 outside yesterday. We'll see next time. Now I have to get the excess #39 and #40 off the paint!

When you're working on a clear coat finish, 99.9% of all new cars, trucks and s.u.v's. are clearcoated and any finish that's metallic is going to be in the 100% range of having a clear coat finish.

So then when using a wax it either makes the clear coat clear or it dulls it down, there really can be no in-between. Our cleaner/wax, A12 Cleaner/Wax in the maroon bottle, the wax that has been around since 1073, longer than many of our forum members have been alive and longer than most all of the boutique waxes talked about on discussion forums leaves a clear finish on all paint.

If you're seeing any kind of muting problem, our guess is it's something else besides our product. It also could be your perception, but it's certainly not a problem with our wax and you're talking to a person that's been using this particular product since 1977.

In reply to the post above,

                    Hi Mike Phillips,
No, I didn't mean to say that there was something wrong with the product, this product exceeded my expectations. I was just giving my personal opinion on the look of the wax, which you said were just my perception. It could differ in someone else's eye.
I may be wrong in the "muted", "doesn't pop as much part", those are my own visual perceptions.
Again, I didn't intend to put this product down.

                    Cheers

                      Hi,
I just did a test just now on a panel to compare both Color X and Cleaner Wax.
I couldn't take pics of the metallics(don't know how to). But to my eye, they were both the same. Here's a pic,

I couldn't spot a difference in the metallics or in how it looks. So I just want to say,

                      SORRY! I was wrong.
