This question has come up many times here and I have also wondered the same thing. Buying a new car gives you the illusion that the car suddenly appeared from the factory at the moment the salesperson gives you the key.
I'm currently in the process of buying a new car, so I was at the dealership trying to decide between a couple of colors. You would not believe how dirty these cars were. These were all brand new '07s, but you wouldn't think so by looking at them. They were covered in dirt, there were bird droppings on the hoods...baking in the sun. One car looked like an eagle must have flown by and did it's thing on the hood.
Fortunately the car I'm getting is coming from another location!
Based on what I saw, yes, the first thing you should do is get your car detailed.
