  • Hyper dressing vs All season dressing

I use HD currently on my tires, wheel wells, exterior and interior plastice trim and engine compartment and love it! My question is for the exterior stuff like tires and wheel wells, which one holds up better, especially after it rains, HD or ASD? I'm considering getting ASD for the exterior but wondered if it lasts longer than HD.

ASD seems to hold up a lot better on surfaces exposed to the elements. I use it on the tires and on exterior trim plastic, and certain pieces beneath the hood on my Mach 1.

I use HD mixed 4:1 for general use under the hood and also as an interior protectant. Since it is water based, I'm pretty sure HD wouldn't last very long on tires or exterior trim exposed to the weather.

HD at 2:1 didn't last thru one ride in the rain on my tires. Hotshine is a much better product. I apply it with an eagle one tire swipe...very fast, very easy.

I've never used the ASD but I think it's a solvent based dressing. It should therefore last longer when exposed to rain vs HD.

I bought HD because it was a dilutable dressing and was therefore fairly economical. However, I'm starting to reconsider that decision as many posts on here have led me to believe that it doesn't contain much UV protection.

I would go with ASD for exterior use and then something specifically made for UV protection for the inside.

That's what I was thinking. I really like the look of HD but after a rain or two, it's pretty much gone. I'll be ordering some ASD now.

I think you'll be happy with it. I've been experimenting with different ways of applying it to my tires today.

The Eagle One brand of contoured open-cell foam applicators work reasonably well but I'm not real crazy about the spotty coverage they give. I had to go back over the tires a few times with them, which unfortunately resulted in too much product being applied.

Just misting the ASD onto the tires is another option but unless your spray bottle gives super fine atomization of the product, you end up with runs and spin-off once you start driving.

The best thing I've found so far is just using some generic terry cloth applicator pads from Wal-Mart. Once you use them for ASD, that's all you can use them for thereafter since ASD is rather hard to clean out of fabric materials.

            Anyway, enjoy.

Thanks for the tip Tungsten. I'm definitely going to order some ASD. Right now I just use a spray bottle to apply HD to the tires and wipe the runs off and the wheels off. I think I'm going to make some round cutouts in 15" to 17" diameters to use as a wheel cover to keep them from getting sprayed. Too bad you cant buy something like that.

I plan on using HD under the hood (not much weather there) and ASD on exterior trim and wheel wells. I have seen a number of posts here where people have done that with great results. Now if I could just get some free time...

I have ASD and like it. I was thinking of getting hyper dressing for the wheel wells and engine compartment. Hyper dressing diluted 4:1 is far cheaper than ASD. Most of the time on these areas I just spray an excessive amount on the area. I figured HD would be better for this even though it probably won't last as long.

Tungsten: Is HD your "go to" dressing for under the hood? I'm not worried about using HD for outside use since I have Trim Detailer for window trim and rock panels and Endurance for tires. I have an aftermarket CAI and the couplings on it are silicone red. I have alot of black plastic under my hood that is flat and can be kept clean easily. Just wanting a good dressing for under the hood to keep it "showroom" clean. Thanks in advance.

Yes, Hyper Dressing is my weapon of choice beneath the hood. Since it is water based, I feel that it doesn't attract and trap dirt and dust the way that an oil or silicone based product might. So far I have been extremely pleased with the results and the others who have tried it at my suggestion have likewise been very pleased.

Thanks for the help. I just purchased some Silicone Free Dressing from ADS this weekend. I hear it works really well under the hood.
