  • Light patches on paint

    Hello!!

Some of you might know from one or two other forums, but i thought i would post here first as Megs. tend to be my to-go products.

I have a car that is about 8 yrs old, i have owned it for most of those years. It has been well looked after, but it is what i learnt to detail on.

The car is green, Peugeot clear coat and has a wide array of products used on it. It was recently crashed in to and had one door replaced and the front wing resprayed.

I dident want to go in to a full detail with that area needing to cure for atleast 6 weeks depending on the weather. (The painter said), I am in London England.

I set about a quick detail using PPCL + DC2 and topped with DC3. This was about 3 weeks ago, its had 2 coats of DC3 since then.

I am now able to see small patches of light paintwork on the roof of the car. This wasnt an area effect by the repair does anyone know they are?? I have tried to get photos but the light patches do not come out. They might have been there before the last few weeks, i have pinnacle souveran on it in the summer but i couldent see them

I was thinking oxidation but if the car has been looked after with Autoglym, Megs, Pinnicle etc. for years is this possible??

Today i took a few steps to deal with the problem and hit it with:

Clay, scratchX, PPCL, DC2 and DC3 to seal it afterwards. No joy, they still seem to be there.

Does this ring a bell with anyone??

I was wondering if it was from a product used at the spray shop?? An intense cleaner or something that has ended up on the roof??

I am not thinking its the Megs. product as i have never had any problems.

I did have a PC but its become defective and will get another one around November time (maybe Megs. UK will have G100 by then!?!?). Is there anything else i can do by hand??

I dont have DC1, if its more powerful then PPCL then i will go get some if you think it might work??

Many Thanks if anyone has any ideas.

    Geoff

    Re: Light patches on paint

If cleaning the surface over these whitish areas, (i.e. abrading with the intent to remove small particles of paint), does not remove or make them go away, then this would be an indicator of a problem throughout the matrix of the clear coat on not on the surface of the clear coat.

This is usually a sign of impending clear coat failure.

Could be something else, could be thin areas of color coat when the base coat was sprayed, or something else, but like we said, if cleaning the direct area using a paint cleaner or a cleaner/polish doesn't improve or remove the defect then it could be a deeper problem.

My car also has this patches of lighter color too. I'll try to take a photo & let u all see it too. I suspect mine is the clear coat at certain spots are thinner. Or bout to reach the base paint already. By the way my car is silver in color. Hopefully my silver color might come out with this patches that u can see.
