  • Stuck On Bugs

Warm summer nights are a favortie for many types of bugs. And they love to find themsleves on the front of my car. I cant go out one night without cleaning the front of my car the next day. Anybody have any tips to make them not stick, or is there anything that will make them come off really easy? I currently just use some speed detailer and wipe em off.

    Thanks

Thats what brought me here initially.

Gold Class Bug & Tar Remover is the product you need, to remove the ones that are really stuck.

I find that keeping the car waxed helps prevent the bugs from sticking as bad. Thats the biggest factor. Bugs should hose right off of a good coat of wax. However, if you run through an Auto-wash twice, then road trip, you're going to have very little wax left over, if any, to protect your car. You'll have a real mess to deal with trying to get off bugs.

So keep car waxed, keep away from auto-washes. When you wash your car, use a body brush... it helps to get bugs off, better than using a mitt alone it seems.

You can use the B&T remover as a pre-soak, allowing it to dwell and loosen up the bugs. Then going over them with the body brush and suds. Then apply two coats of wax.

After a road trip, it pays to use the Quik Detail spray and a cloth to wipe the car down, while bugs are still fresh. If you don't... the bugs will bake onto the car and just be alot more work later. Same goes for bird bombs. Call it preventative maintenance.

You probably don't want to wax the car with every wash... but theres no reason not to use the Quik Wax every time... spray it on, wipe it off. Even if you only use it on the front of the car, it'll help keep them bugs from sticking... by rejuvenating the protection inbetween waxings.

I have the "bug sponge". Ordered it from ADS for like a $1.5. Works fairly well, and I havent noticed scratches, though I only use it on the side mirrors, front bumper, and headlights of our cars.
Good coat of wax is the key though.

I have heard if you are in a pinch you can use a wettend dryer sheet like bounce. I have heard it works really well at removing bug. I have not tried it and I hope I am not prepetuating a bad practice.
You left out licking the water off. Oh, wait a minute, that's my cat, not my car. Uh, I mean my cat licks himself dry. I don't lick my cat dry. Or my car. -PC.

Here is how I remove bugs:

I first soak the area thoroughly with QD and then I place a sopping wet rag over the area. This will cause the bugs to soak up the water and detach themselves from the paint. I then use a towel and wipe it off. This works really well on bird droppings, too.

If all else fails, I've had really good luck removing bugs using the clay bar.

The best thing to do is just wax the front bumper and the bugs will come off easy when you wash it.

I normaly qd with a terry towel and if it dont bring them off I spray more qd on the affected area and gently work the bug remains loose with my thumbnail then qd again with the terry towel and remove any access qd with a microfiber. I have not cause any harm to the paint with this.
