Now me personally I do both but there are other steps involved as pointed out in the link above.

You will want to wax if you are interested in protection... now a polish will only add minimal protection and should be topped with a wax.

Lets see if we can help you out a little more, what are you trying to accomplish? Is the vehicle you are working on new? has the paint been waxed before?
