What if you couldn't buy it...whats the equivalient?

For arguments sake... lets say you couldn't buy NXT or GC products (they don’t exist or are unavailable)... what are the numbered equivalents/substitutes?

Lately I've seen some half decent prices on the same sized bottles of non GC/NXT wax/polishes and other Meg’s products.

Assuming their "just as good"... what is the equivalent of the DC or NXT waxes/polishes with numbers? #21? #26? Etc?

Personally if I can get #26 for $13, and its just as good as NXT at $30... I'm going to buy the 26...or whatever the equivalent is etc.

Ive never seen NXT cost $30?!? Mine was $15. DC1 then #7 or DC2 then #26 seems to do good. If you can get #26, why cant you get NXT?

Well... Nxt is synthetic, so the Pro-Line synthetics are #21 and #20.

Gold Class and DC#3 are carnuba blends, so #16 (discontinued) and #26 are carnuba blends, as is the X-Press Liquid Wax in the Detailer line.

The thing is that only you can decide what is "just as good", as it depends on which characteristics is important to you from durability/looks/ease of application/smell etc. And the prep work you do before waxing will be more important to the final look than which LSP you choose imo. But if #26 is $13, and NXT is $30 where you live, I think I would go with the #26 too.

let me get this straight...

So if I was to buy synthetics other than NXT, #21 and 20 are good choices.... and if I was to buy Carnauba, #26.

This brings me to the question - what’s the difference between carnauba and a man-made synthetic wax? I've looked up both and people describe them similarly. Or people like both and switch often????

As for the surface - its going on fresh paint that’s been clayed - smoother than a babies butt! Oh and its dark blue metalic paint.

Looking for wet look - and durability. I find most waxes I’ve tried (regardless if i polish before hand)... get dull within days due to dust and environmental stuff blowing around and landing on my car. However after a quick rinse things look better again.

I'd pick #21 over the other waxes period. But that is just my favorite.

The general 'idea' is that carnuba waxes will tend to give a richer look, and synthetics will tend to give a glossier look. And synthetics will tend to be more durable. But, all of the waxes are getting so close to each other these days, just pick a favorite.

Are you planning to just wax after claying, or use a paint cleaner and polish, or cleaner/wax beforehand?

Decision made - price was a factor

I decided on liquid paste #26... it was priced at $15 for a bottle... not bad. Everything else was about $30 or higher.

Clayed the car... polished it with Deep Crystal - and applied #26... looks as good as the NXT samples I had... and the Gold Class I used to use.

To be honest - it all looks good (starting to believe its the surface before you wax that determines the end product).

Just a note to any Meguiar's ppl who might be checking out this tread.... COST was a MAJOR factor. Kinda pissed that the compeditors products are more than half the cost in Canada.

Would I buy Gold Class again? Sure... Would I try NXT products...SURE.... but when I can get something from Meguiars at half the price... I'm going to buy it instead. Wax is a sacrificial barrier - and I’m not going to spend a fortune on it when they are all similar.

well mothers is about $8.50(24 for the pure wax) and TW is really dirt cheap, so your average Joe will prob. get TW. but for the people that truely love their cars they will use Meguiar's no mater what the cost. Since I started working at CT i've sold every bottle of ScratchX and NXT iin the warehouse. (ScratchX:16.99 NXT 29.99) also if you really like 21 just go visit SoCal one day

I live close enough to the Ontario/NY border that I stock up when I cross over (my wife likes to go shopping in the States). I pay $15 USD vs. $30 CDN for my NXT.

I've often thought of buying a few and reselling them here in Canada...

As for the choice of # 26, I like it personally. I like it on my dark green Mercury Sable (nice deep rich color) vs. the NXT on my silver Focus. It all comes down to preference. If you like the Gold Class, # 26 is the next progression to the Mirror Glaze line. Next time, try using the # 7 glaze instead of DC # 2 and see the wet look come out.

I hate that. Last I checked, there was a 0.10$ difference between cn and us dollars. Yet, we still get the products twice the price.
