Well I am getting my first bike, an 2001 Yamaha R6. Never detailed a bike. What do you guys do on bike details and what shouldnt I do. I know this much, no tire shine and no slick seats(LOL)

If a bike uses disk brakes, is tire shine still a problem?
At any rate, a bike is either bare plastic, painted plastic, or painted metal. And some chrome, aluminum. Same as any car.
Just keep degreasers away fom chains, things that should be greased.

A couple of months ago I detailed my bike, a Honda CBR600F. Worked out great! Didn't do the tires with tire shine, the risc is too big for sliding when cornering... as Murr1525 said: "... and some of those sports bike tires have no real sidewall." and that's the case on my bike. Removed the swirls from the "window" on the fairing with PlastX, worked great! Here are some before/after pictures:
