Well I am getting my first bike, an 2001 Yamaha R6. Never detailed a bike. What do you guys do on bike details and what shouldnt I do. I know this much, no tire shine and no slick seats(LOL)

If a bike uses disk brakes, is tire shine still a problem?

At any rate, a bike is either bare plastic, painted plastic, or painted metal. And some chrome, aluminum. Same as any car.

Just keep degreasers away fom chains, things that should be greased.

And it is a lot of little hand work, so it can take a while.

The problem with the shine I think is spinning the tires, especially when turning. A friend of mine lubed up his tires and took a spill only a few blocks from the house, he lost the back end.

Yes, it certainly cant be anywhere near treads... and some of those sports bike tires have no real sidewall.

Could tire shine be used on an 'old school' tire?

Tire shine on any bike is not recommended, same for protectant on seats and grips.

A couple of months ago I detailed my bike, a Honda CBR600F. Worked out great! Didn't do the tires with tire shine, the risc is too big for sliding when cornering... as Murr1525 said: "... and some of those sports bike tires have no real sidewall." and that's the case on my bike. Removed the swirls from the "window" on the fairing with PlastX, worked great! Here are some before/after pictures:

I have found the meguiars leather cleaner great for motorcycle seats and saddle bags....thou on the seat you have to use a clean terry towel to 'buff' /wipe of as it can be a little slippery if left.

Brings the leather up almost brand new again.
