  • Washing Microfiber togehter with Terry Cloth?

    Hi,

I have always used microfiber towels and also a microfiber wash mitt. now i ordered some ultra plush terrys and a deep pile chenille wash mitt. i washed it all togehter in the washing machine with the microfiber stuff and also with microfiber wash solution. the wash mitt and the terry towels now seem to be "hard" and not so soft anymore.

    did i do anything wrong?

I couldn't say why they are hard, but I know your supposed to wash Microfibers and Terry cloths separate. Don't use any fabric softener in the washer or the dryer. Liquid soap is best..

Again I'm unsure as to the hardness, so I'll let others chime in here..

I was lazy and washed my terry cloth towels with my microfibre towels and the mf ones now have lint all over them. Wash them separately!

Were the TC ones new when you washed them with the MF ones? Perhaps there was some sort of starch on them that transferred to the MFs.

Try adding vinegar to the final rinse when you wash the MFs again. That's supposed to soften them. Do a search to see if you can find the amount to add (I haven't done it before.)

no no, the microfiber towels are fine, the terrys are now somehow hard. and yes it was the first wash for the terrys

After I wash my towels I use a double rinse and on the second rinse I add a cup of white distilled vinegar. Dry on low heat until nearly dry then finish drying on air fluff no heat. They are always nice and soft.

I have never used a washing machine so I wouldn't know.

Seems to me you used too much detergent. Excess detergent not fully rinsing out of the fibers is always the cause of stiffness. Read the instructions on the bottle for the size load and cut the recommended detergent quantity in half, you really don't need much.

And I have to say this... you guys are really mixing up the terms terry cloth and microfiber. Terry cloth refers to the weave of the fabric, the kind with loops. Microfiber refers to the diameter of the yarns used in weaving. In fact, all the micrifiber detailing towels (whether cotton or polyester) on the market ARE terry cloth except for the waffle weaves. Saying terry vs. microfiber is like saying wax vs. Meguiars, it makes no sense.
