  • moldy PC pads!

Hey everyone! Over the past few weeks in St. Louis we have had alot of rain followed by extreme heat. I keep my Porter Cable in the garage, in a lid covered bucket, and all the pads on top. Well, apparently the humidity has got to the pads and has put a small amount of mold over all the pads. If anyone has any advice on how to clean the surface and store these pads more effectivly it would be a huge help! Thank you!!!

I've had the same problem with one of my yellow applicator pads that I used to apply Gold Class Wax. Being winter here, the humidity has been around the 95% mark and placing my pad in a Glad bag caused it to go moldy and slimy and no amount of washing (in a machine) could clean it.
    I ultimately threw it away.

We don't see much of this kind of thing here in SoCal but we understand it does happen, let me see what I can find out.

In an effort to make sure it doesn't happen in the future, you should always store your pads only when they are dry, and store them in a cool, dry place, and not completely sealed up.

Very good advice. Here at Meguiar's we store our used pads in a cupboards that are not fully sealed and thus plenty room for air circulation. The goal is to prevent dirt and other air-borne dust particles from landing onto the pads but to also enable the pads to dry.

As far as cleaning or removing the mold from the pads you have, I have not heard anything back from the e-mails I have sent, but chances are good that if you allow the pads to dry this will stop the growth of the mold, then clean off any dried excess product and then put them back into use as normal. Then when you're finished using them, store them in a place where they can dry.
