  • Critique my prep for #21

Hello all and all of this will done by hand no PC

The cars in question are a 1990 Cadilac Deville with Bronze Champaign color it really is a nice color deep and reflective at the same time. It has been neglected by me the water just sits there or puddles and hard to dry off after a wash there are some swirls but not planning to attack those unless take to abody shop after prep to work the swirls out.
Prep: wash vehicle then use deep crystal paint cleaner also have P21S Paint Cleansing Lotion use one after another or just one .
    > Clay vehicle ; wash afterward needed to get residue off ?
    > apply #m21 thinly to entire vehicle wait 10 to 15 min. then remove.
    > maintain wash with Hi-Tech car wash this is made for wetsanding is it OK to use as a wash I like it better than NXT wash; a little of the Tech wash goes along way the gloss of this would look good on 21.
    > use #34 final inspection every other wash

2nd vehicle white 2001 Cadillac Devile paint still in good condition some swirls but not attack them unless taken to body shop no detail shop here I would trust.
    > prep as before on vehicle one and everyhing else.

wahing mitt is a sheepskin mitt preferred over a cotton mitt and how do keep the mitt clean put it in washer on hand cycle to rinse it out with maybe a bit of clothes detergent to clean or does allthe detergent get rinsed out if not then dries on mitt and causes swirls.
    thankx in advance mongo

      Hi mongo,

      Welcome to Meguiar's Online!

First a comment on taking your car to a body shop to have the swirls removed because you cannot locate a detail shop you trust.

Comment: Most body shops are not any better.

      Nuff said.

Sounds like the finish on both of these cars have been neglected, as such here's how you should prep the paint.

      Wash the car thoroughly.
Clay the car thoroughly, after you clay the paint it should feel smooth like glass, if it doesn't then it could be possible you didn't clay well enough, many people don't use enough pressure or clay an area long enough to get all the contaminants off. Make sure after you've clayed the ALL the areas you've clayed feel smooth like glass and you don't feel any textured feeling.

Also, if you wipe off the quick detailer and clay residue after you clay a section, you don't need to wash the car again. It's up to you, if you like washing your car go for it.

Next, clean the paint with a paint cleaner like ScratchX or Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner, (or fill in the blank), and put some passion behind your pad. There are how to articles on this forum that explain how to do this I'll include the "List 'O Links" below.

After you have cleaned the paint with a paint cleaner, then apply the M21, apply a thin coat and allow it to dry until the wax swipes clear. Again, see the "List 'O Links" for a thread on this.

      Best of luck to you.

This should work find, I would test a small area with your cotton applicator pads and your choice of paint cleaner and make sure you're not putting scratches into the paint before working on the entire finish.

Some paints are scratch-senstive and some people just don't posses the skills to tough paint without scratching it. I'm not saying this is you, what I'm sayings test first.

          thanx for the reply Mike.

The 2001 Cadillac is in good shape still beads fine have used various products on it and washed it regulary most mportantly.

The 1990 Caddy paint still sparkles just needs some TLC to bring it out.

i have been detailingfor quite a while

          regards mongo
