  • Who Trusts Rinseless Washes ?

There is a growing number of professional detailers using rinseless washes like QEW, 3in1 and ONR and swear that it is better and safer than the traditional hose and soap method. Any feedback on these products ? I know Meg's don't make a similar product and their QD is as close as it gets to it.

For those not familar with this kind of product, all that is required is that you add a cap full of the product to a gallon of water and you pass your mitt and dry with a MF with no marring or scratching ...hard for me to believe, but other swear by it.

This is from someone who has never used such a product but here is a quick .02....

For lightly dirty vehicles I see no harm, seems like a good product to use when the dust is too much for a QD'er and not dirty enough for a traditional wash.... just my opinion.

I think it would be interesting if Meguiars were to introduce their own.

Well here is $0.02 from someone who has not only used rinseless wash, but has used all three of them (QEW, Optimum NRW, & DP 4-n-1).

I can honestly say that rinseless washes are great! I wouldn't call them better than traditional hose washing though. The procedure with a rinseless wash is definitely faster and I would say you could wash 95% of the cars you'll ever see with a rinseless wash.

I use a rinseless wash on my car during the winter and have never had any marring no matter how dirty it gets. Clearly, I don't let my car get totally disgusting but there's no avoiding getting your car relatively dirty driving around in the New England winter muck.

Also, I personally prefer the DP and Optimum rinseless washes. The QEW doesn't seem to leave the surface as slick and it doesn't seem to float the dirt off the paint as well as the other two.

I can't see Meguiar's ever coming out with something like this. Too much, "corporate liability."

The big reason rinseless washes are so popular with Professionals isn’t that they work better than a standard hose and bucket wash (though they do work well), it’s because you don’t have to hassle with water recovery. The fines for violating environmental runoff codes are steep.

Think of it as car soap w/o the suds. I use ONR, but on REALLY dirty vehicles, (especially ones that have leaves or a really thick layer of dirt) I will still do a "regular" wash. Sometimes, I need to be able to blast off dirt and grime, especially on wheels. For me, its not a replacement for a regular wash; it serves more as an alternative.

FWIW, you can still get scratches with regular soap, its all in your technique...

Thx! This thread just reminded me how I can go about washing cars in the wintertime. I was thinking about having some sort of water recovery system installed in my shop, but this way I can wash cars inside the shop, without worrying about the runoff

Actually I don't know why I didn't think of this, as I already have the DP 4-in-1 Just forgot about the rinseless wash feature of the product...

A very good thing about theese products is that they are so versatile. I'm currently using the DP 4-in-1 for mixing my own QD and clay lube. This way I save a lot on shipping, as QD is not readily available where I live, and I order most of my stuff from the US. 32 oz of the DP will mix to about 3-4 gallons of QD, or about 6-7 gallons of clay lube! So this saves me from having lot of water shipped here.
