  • Waxing Frequency

    Hi all

Ive been running a new Audi TT in Phantom Black since March 06.

Previously I used Autoglym products on an A4 Convertible but when I got this black TT I spent a fair amount on buying it and another pile of cash modding it so wanted to take particular care of it so switched to Megs products.

I used Gold class shampoo and wax up until now along with various other megs products but this week bought the NXT gen products.

My question is, bearing in mind the cars been waxed once a month and the front waxed probably an additional 4-5 times in that 4 months period, would it be ok to do a full clean and wax today and then again next Friday?

Why I hear you ask. Well, next weekend is our big annual club meet (hundreds of TTs) and I have Friday off to prep the car but I just cant resist doing it today. Ill have to do it next week so its at its best but im finding it hard to resist using the new products now! ;-)

I heard I shouldnt use the NXT products too frequently but im not sure if thats true??

What did you mean by "clean?" There's no such thing as waxing too much, but you should avoid doing heavy rotary work a lot, but it doesn't seem like you do. Waxes and sealants have no abrasives at all so it's completely fine. Honestly, I probably wax once or twice a week depending if I have time just because I really like that slick feeling it gives the car. Maybe I should look into those spray waxes...

Edit: Also, none of the NXT products are paint cleaners which means none of them contain abrasives. Use them as often as you like!

Clean I just mean wash and dry.

No you're right I do things by hand at the moment although im thinking of getting a Porter Cable Polisher (and some training).

I just washed, dried and attended to some monor scratches, dressed the tyres etc today but its good to know I can wax as often as I like with those products as I agree, I like to wax once a week really especially as the cars black and a pain to keep shiny!

      Thanks.

And, on a rare occasion, ive finished and its NOT started raining immediately after Ive finished, result!

        My general rule on waxing:

        1) Wax when the car needs it;

        2) Wax when you want to!

You're really never going to apply "too much" wax. I've never heard that particular problem mentioned anywhere . . .

        So, wax away!

I have never heard of waxing your ride too much, but to me it is a real pain to wax more than once a week. To keep your car looking fresh, just use some Final Inspection or Quick Detailer and a Microfiber towel. I try to wash my car once a week and wax it at least twice a month. I don't drive my car all that often since I walk to work and my car stays under a custom fitted cover.

I wash my car once a week and started waxing once a month..and clay bar when needed. It's a simple schedule and has given me good results. And of course QD in between.
