  • Removing #40

    I treated some plastic textured engine cover parts with #40 now I am thinking of painting those same pieces.

    Is there something I can use to remove the #40 so I don't end up with fish eyes when I spray them .. I'll be using Plasti-Cote caliper paint which I have used before for the same job.

    Parts in question

    Proposed end result ( different car )

    M40 is a water-based product so you should be able remove it by washing really well with a detergent soap or with the correctly diluted APC or SD.

      Thanks Mike .. appreciate the response. My plan of attack was;
      1) wash with Dawn
      2) Thorough wipedown with PrepSol
      3) Spray paint till I'm happy.

        It didn't work

        Well back to square one. Washing with Dawn and 2 wipedowns with PrepSol didn't do it .. Soon as I hit it withthe spray paint it was major fish eyes.

        Had to so some serious work with Prepsol to get the paint off.

          a local bodyshop/ paint supply place should be able to suggest a few products...here in UK we can get special cleaners to prep plastic for paint
