  • Removing tire rubber?

    Everytime I take this thing to the track I say I'm going to put a heavy coat of wax on the rear bumper... or I'm going to coat the thing in painter's tape... and I never do. (grrrrrrr at me)

    Anyone have a good way to remove this stuff? I'm ready to take a putty knife to it! AArrrrrrgggg!

    (Yes, I know they also sell a "burnout guard" to prevent the stuff from building up... )

      I brought out a clay bar ... which promptly ran away screaming.

      Ended up using a plastic scrapper inside the tire wheel wells and (ouch) a lacquer thinner and towel on the bumper/fender.

      I'd like to report no damage to the paint and I have a roll of painter’s tape in the consol.

        Keep the panels waxed very well. Apply burnout guard, Pam, WD-40 or about anything so it will come off. I have also seen them taped, covered with saran-wrap, etc.

        I use paper towels and brakekleen. Likely not the best, but it is very tough to clean up.

        I did an extremely long burnout at the new Weld Wheels facility after one of the races and my fenders looked like they had been undercoated. Took about 2 hours to get it off. Use a plastic scraper and tons of elbow grease.

          You can try sprying some tire-shine or baby oil on the rears of the quarters before you run... I know a bunch of off road guys that spray thier whole jeeps with that to keep the mud from getting stuck. If that's not gonna fly, then I would just wax 'em down good, and then get some bug and tar remover, wash, rinse, repeat.
          WARNING! Eye protection must be worn when looking at my car in direct sunlight. Can cause temporary blindness.

            I keep mine well waxed, and wash it as soon as possible after racing. Sometimes just takes some elbow grease and a cotton wash cloth. I just use Meguires car wash.
