How to remove trim detailer?

Some kinda trim detailer was applied on my plastic a long time ago, now its still slippery and glossy. i wanted to stick a pocket there but after changing the backing tape twice it still wont hold. i tried dishwashing liquid to prep the surface but still cant. what could be used that wont damage the plastic?

Even stronger than dishwashing liquid, is liquid laundry detergent. You can try a varying concentrated solution of that, or you could always use a degreaser (i.e. Meguiar's Safe D-greaser, Super Degreaser). However, as with any product, use it on an inconspicuous spot first. I'm not sure if these products will indeed work, but they could be something that you could try if you wanted to. A safe bet would be to use a leather cleaner. I have had great success with using such a product, mostly because it's mild and won't bleach the plastic, yet powerful to remove a lot of substances.

I'm also unclear as to what kind of plastic you are dealing with and how new your car is, but some plastics continue to excrete polymers over the years, that, over time may cause tape to no longer stick to its surface.

Also a good option would be APC, at the proper dilution fro mthe label of course. Either 4:1 or 10:1. Dont go out and get Simple Green, even though it sounds the same.. nothing but bad results from that.

Remember that the APC will, hopefully, strip everything, so there will be no protection left behind. You'll probably want to go back and dress it with something.
