  • Swirl Remover #9 & Car Show Polish #7

What results can I get by using Swirl Remover #9 and following it up with Polish #7 if I apply both by hand?

Or, is it better to use Scratch X and Deep Crystal System Polish if I am going to do the work by hand?

    Which is the better combination?

Or, is mixing it up better, such as Scratch X with Polish #7, or Swirl Remover #9 with Deep Crystal System Polish?

All applied by hand, remember. Dual action polisher is not an option because of my lack of funds. If I had the Dual Action Polisher, I wouln't be asking this question because I would know the answer.

#9 is useless by hand! it is almost useless on the DA! Use scratchX and #7 if you are working by hand, or you could use scratchX and DC2 polish

M07 looks a little better IMO
but DC2 is easier to use

I've tried either scratch x or #9 follow by on hand polish. #9 and hand polish gave me the best result. It depends on your application. I use #9 for the whole car and scratch x for a specific spot such as to remove water marks.

Is it wise to use Scratch X on the whole car? I thought it was only for touch ups. I have swirls around the whole car. Not bad swirls, but still swirls.

It is fine to do, but is a real big pain. Dont plan to get the whole thing done in one day.

Obvioulsy how long it takes will depend on the hardness of the paint, how good your technique is, and the results you want. Give these a read, just in case you havent yet.

If the plan is to do the whole car by hand then the yes, ScratchX is good to use all over.

I use ScratchX for touch-ups because I don’t want to do a whole car by hand. I’ll use a machine if I need to cover a lot of surface area.

                Results after detailing

So, I decided to stick with the new products I purchased #9 Swirl Remover & #7 Show Car Glaze for my detail today. I followed the directions that I have been reading in the post on applying the products.

First, the effectiveness of #9 swirl remover was horrible. I did not see one bit of difference removing swirls. I even tried it on a spot that had very very light swirls, and using alot of elbow grease, they didn't even disappear. Not happy.

Next #7 polish. I guess because #9 has some polish in it, there wasn't much difference in the "wetness" of the paint. But the good thing is that, it is a conditioner for the paint like lotion for our skins. I didn't like the green color of it. I wasn't expecting that. Also, it left residue.

But, I will support the use of the NXT Tech Wax. This wax rocks! I would say that this product was the most effective one in improving the appearance of my paint. Before applying the wax, you could still see the swirls and the paint was somewhat reflective. But after applying the wax, the swirls were not as noticeable and it shined even brighter. Also, there is no white residue left behind!!! I really like that.

Conclusion, I felt #9 Swirl Remover was a waste of my money. Is there any way to get my money back or exchange it for Scratch X? Maybe that will do better.

#7 Show Car glaze wasn't as "wet" as I was expecting it to be. Tech Wax seemed to have more shine to it. Also, the green liquid leaves residue in cracks and after wiping down. But I will still use it as a conditioner.

NXT Tech wax is great. I already used it once before I used the #9 & #7 and it works awesome.

After using #9 & #7, I would say that there could have been a 1% increase in appearance, but that isn't enough to jusitfy for the $25 bucks I spent on them.(including tax)

                  what were the steps.

                  like did you

1)wash - this is obvious you did this
                  2) clay
                  3) wash

before doing any of these to totally clean the car.

scratch x is possible for the whole car. your arm will be sore though that's for sure. this little guy needs plenty of love when applying.

it might not always be the products but the technique. its not as easy as it looks sometimes. this is from my personal experience.

Your results can sometimes be affected by your prep work. Washing, claying, then washing again is a good idea before beginning to remove swirls.

Also, you would also do well to make sure that your applicators and towels are gentle enough so that they will not put marring back into the finish, but have enough bite so that they may remove defects.

That is to say, if I remove defects by hand, I prefer to use a meguiar's high tech foam applicator to work in ScratchX, since it is a gentle on the paint, yet is able to remove swirls and light scratches. Removal with a quality microfiber towel is also a must.

I used a meguiar's high tech foam applicator for the #9 Swirl Remover.

Wash & Clay were done before. As I said before, I followed all the steps that were posted on this board about removing swirls. Only difference is that I was using #9 instead of Scratch X. I wasn't rescratching the surface because I paid close attention to a particular small piece of swirl to see if it would disappear and it didn't. I worked that spot several times, and nothing. I'd love to try Scratch X but I don't want to have to buy their whole product line just to see if it works. If Meguiars will reimburse me or exchange for the #9, I would gladly try the Scratch X. But no reply from them on this post yet about that.

I beg to differ about #9 sucking, even on a DA!

Heres what I did with #9 alone, with a LC Orange pad

#9 is designed to be mild, even when used with a machine. Using it by hand minimizes it's cutting capability.

ScratchX is designed to be used by hand and to be as aggressive as it practically can be made to be (maximum cutting without leaving marring that you'd need to remove with another product/process).

Thats not a very good example because the two photos were taken from different areas of the hood. Also, is that "after" picture without wax or with?

                              @california legend

I have used the #9 mostly by hand for removing small imperfections from bird droppings or water stains and it worked great.

Removing swirls around the whole car by hand needs a lot of elbow grease and a dedicated Produkt, which is adjusted to the kinds of swirls you have and how deep they are.

Without fotos it's very difficult to give an advice, but I think Scratch X would be your best choice, because it is more aggressive than #9 and thus helps to reduce your pain.

If you have only the #9, you could increase the abrasive effect by using a piece of cotton terry towel instead of a foam applicator.

I think the best combination is Scratch X first and then the #9. #9 is a combination of a cleaner and a polish, so you can save a pure polish like #7 or Deep Crystal System Polish.

                              Hope it helps
