  • Saw this a a "detailers" shop yesterday

This was in Pella, Iowa yesterday. The detailers name and number was plastered on the side of the truck. Slogan is "Let us make your vehicle shine inside and out".
Maybe Joe can give him a few pointers!!

While I share your concern with his truck looking like that - there are some things to consider before passing judgement...

Maybe he just purchased the truck and hasn't had time to properly detail the paint yet.

Maybe he has been so busy it's just last on his list. No matter how much you love detailing, when you detail a couple cars in one day (or even just one REALLY bad one), the last thing I want to do when I come home to my wife is spend a couple hours on my own truck.

Again, don't take this the wrong way - I just don't agree with passing judgement right away. Then again, maybe you know more of the story than what you posted...

If the person knew or was worried about the appearance, then they made the error of advertising their less-than-ideal finish.

Sure, nobody is perfect, but throwing a business name and promise on something draws attention. Dark colors are risky to use as advertising.

That's a smart idea. While it's fun to brag about the dark colors, any little thing can kill the image. Since detailing is so image-sensitive, that's a big risk.

Personally, I like white. Kept clean and in new condition, white is stunning on the right vehicle.

I was thinking about this today, that if i was running a detail service, i'd make sure that my vehicle itself was in pristine condition.

Me too. I went back the next day and nobody was there. I wanted to ask them about the truck. The paint was very smmoth and slick. If I was advertising I would want it to be my best work.

There could be many reasons why his Vehicle is swirled. He could be too busy to keep up his only business vehicle. He just started his business and the vehicle was a good price.Or he is just learning how to detail cars.I would want to see his work before I pass any judgement.I pick up cars for customers and some of them are ratty when I pick them up.Ive been mistaken for owning these things by other potental clients until I show them the finished product. Give the guy some credit until you see a line of swirled cars.

Like others have said if you don't think you are going to take care of the vehicle like you should; one that advertises your detailing business you need to pick the color carefully.

Do you remember what street this was on?

I believe it was Oskaloosa Street... By the Super 8 in Pella, IA. I
Think a Culligan water dealer was there too.

Wow you think that's bad? And passing judgement is something to be careful about huh? Well look at what I saw on my way home last week. I don't think anyone can say anything positive about this "detailing rig".

Do you think he uses Meguiar's??

Whenever I see a detail vehicle, I always look at how IT looks...a LOT of times the car or truck is pretty messed up, and i think to myself, "Well there's someone not to call!" There should be no excuse for that. I'm not in the business, I just like my car to look nice when I have the time. Its thier friggin job - image is EVERYTHING, especially in the freelance world. There may be some explanation, but really, thats just lame!
