  • Streaking with #40?

    Hi!

I just got my car out of the garage and the last thing I did before taking it out was to put on MG 40 on all the trims and such.

The first couple of days it really looked great but last night we got some rain.
And after the rain it looked like this (yes, there is some dust on the paint as well, but that is not what you're seeing on the vinyl here)

Do you see how it looks like the #40 has some streaking effect, like the water has dissolved it and it starts to run?

Is this natural behaviour for the MG 40? (In that case I'll be looking for some other product)
If it can't last a single day of rain then the detailing will go on forever (since it rains quite a bit during our summers)

The only explanation I can think about is that I put on too much product but no - that isn't really plausible, It really looked like even application and not too much..

Anyway, it might very well be that the product reacts this way to rains and I thought I'd ask the forum if this behaviour is recognized by others...

    Kind regards,
    Marcus

Hah, that might mean that it's only me that experiences this
    But nah, couldn't be!

    Anyone?

Hi Marcus, I have the same problem. I was using the Gold Class stuff for years and always had it streak. Then I found the #40 so I thought I'd give it a shot. It always runs down my paint and streaks. At first, I applies it and left it. Then I started buffing it down with a terry cloth towel after it soaked in for a while. It still streaks. Everything seems to streak. I hate seeing it streaked down side of my nice waxed truck after it rains. I find that using Gold Class car wash doesn't remove it. I usually end up using Quick Detailer or a quick coat of wax hand applied to the area after it's washedd to remove it. Sorry.

Yes I would agree ASD is better for exteriors, I think M40 was formultated mainly for interiors.

But then again, what is "better"? Will that product also streak, just not as much?
No matter what, I do have other products (non Meguiar's) that does the job, I just wanted to confirm that #40 isn't up for the job with exteriors, at least not in combination with bad weather...

I like the gold class trim detailer, it is like a lotion, I apply it with a foam applicator pad and have been using it for at least a year and no streaking at all, even when it rains. It is a great product! And in Houston, Texas it rains a lot...hope this helps

From my experience, streaking will occur with any product for two reasons. You apply too much product without wiping the excess, or you don't give it enough time to soak in before wiping. What I would do is to apply the product and then wait 5-7 minutes before wiping it off so that should be enough time for it to soak into the pores. Hope this might help.
