I've found that making sure it is really clean makes white stand out. Meaning, clay it and then follow up with a good cleaner/polish like #83. I agree, it is hard to see where you have been. The cleaning part of #83 does a very good job of making white look really white.
I did a white 1998 Audi A6 that had been neglected and the transformation was pretty dramatic.

I too think it is a little more difficult to polish/wax a white vehicle. One thing its harder to see any residue I was always bobbing my head around looking for any leftover cleaner/polish/wax residue. Seemed no matter how hard I tried to get everything I would find something the next day or so.
Bobbing one's head around is a must for doing white, that's for sure, gb!
White is VERRY different than doing a darker color. It's much tougher to pick up defects while you're polishing...thing is, it's just as tough to see them when you're done as well.
To see what you need to see takes intense concentration. Over the winter I did a major detail on a white Taurus and I found myself sitting on my creeper stool just staring at panel after panel until I was satisfied.
Tried 80 on deck lid. Then rain started. After the rain it looks like I need to go to 83. Just hard to see residue. Storms rolling through so I have to rewash
Will look fo xenon light. Thanks a lot.
Just a note: 150W Halogens seem to work just as well for finding leftover polish etc, although they won't pick out the ultra-fine scratches in the paintwork like a Xenon.
Note that this claim is from a red car using both lights, obviously the white would be a lot more difficult.
I cleaned up a white Toyota for my brother 2 years ago, and it was a toughy to do! I never could get the finish to feel slick like other paint colors I've did.
My brother was very satisfied with the results though.
