  • Apply Scratch X with spounge or applicator pad?

Hi! This is my first post on the meguiars forum!

I havn't had much input into this forum but i have read so much and learn alot! I have been detaling for around 7 years now and thank god it's a joy to do rather than a choir.

I have been using the meguiars 3 step for along time now with clay bar, scratch x, DCP & NXT Wax.

I am still applying all products by hand but after 7 years of doing this it can become very tiring and time consuming. But i can't find a good orbital in Australia.

Anyway, while removing a small defect from my paint i had no clean meguiars applicators left. So i cut up a brand new spounge and worked in some scratch x and nxt wax and i could not believe the result. I achived a 100% swirl free finish with ease! Which is very hard to do by hand.

The reason why i think i achived such a good result is due to me using a spounge! THe foam must be alot tuffer (like a cutting pad i suppose?) and it really made scratch x work alot better!!

I'm wondering if anybody else has experieced the same thing! and hopefully this could help out a few people on this forum who are still applying products by hand.
I Still use the meg pads for polishing and waxing but i think if using scratch x with a spounge it's just so much quicker to use and i got a perfect result!

Never thought of this, but indeed a hand has more grip on a sponge than it has on a foam applicator.

That could be great for work in products like ScratchX.

I'm starting my parents' Avalon's spring detailing tomorrow and expect to finish Sunday. I know I have some very soft foam sponges still sealed over there. Bought a 8 pack for $2 many years ago.

I'll give this a try. Thanks for the suggestion !

It's something i never thought of tyring either but the product worked against the clear so much easier & quicker for that swirl free finish. I found that it's best to cut your spounge up so you can control the product aswell.

Wonder if meguiars can bring out an applicator pad that is made out of a tougher spounge for cutting?
