  • Wolfgang Foam Gun?

Has anyone used one of these? I was scrolling through the new products, and stumbled upon it. It's kind of expensive, but it seems well built.

Yeah, I have one, although mine is directly from Gilmour, and I think it might have been a few bucks cheaper that way.

It pretty much does what it says, though I have no idea what soap they are using in those pictures, looks like shaving cream. But you get a pretty rich foam, that doesnt just run off the car when your sponge touches it. I am trying out the Shampoo Plus at the moment, but it seems like any soap should work.

I just got it recently, only used it three times maybe, so I cant say it really speeds anything up yet. Now if you have two people, it works pretty good. Would be a good thing to give a kid to stand back and aim and shoot.

One thing I have noticed is that it is hard to tell where I have washed and where I have not with the suds everywhere. I ended up with some dirt on my drying towel the first time.

I think Accumulator is the foam gun expert, perhaps he will chime in.

      Heh heh, yeah....

I use that for every wash.

I'd replace the pistol grip with a shutoff valve (it comes apart at the central brass quick disconnect), much easier to handle that way IMO.

I spray the suds between the mitt/brush and the panel to provide constant lubrication and flushing. My favorite Meguiar's shampoo for this is #62, which I'd mix up in a gallon jug (refill the gun from that). I'd use about 4-6 oz of #62 per gallon of water and then use the weakest setting on the gun unless dealing with really nasty dirt.

Using the gun as a touchless or a presoak or ameans of applying the shampoo to the panels doesn't work well IMO. But using it as described above- as an *addition* to the regular wash method- has basically eliminated my wash-induced marring. I hardly *ever* have to polish any more.

Sorry about that 2hotford; I forgot

So basically "pre-mix" the wash in a gallon bucket, and periodically replace the bucket on the nozel?

Do you use the same one, or a different brand spayer? As I think about it, if this works like the picture shows, it'd be worth the $60..

Sorry, I wasn't as clear as I should've been I mix the shampoo up in an empty gallon jug. I pour it from that jug into the foamgun's container.

I use that same Gilmour foamgun. I have a few with different brand names on the bottles but they're all the same model (forget which Gilmour part number it is at present).

It's worth it for *me* as I'm a fanatic about marring. I don't like polishing all the time but I hate wash-induced marring even more. If I'd had one of these 20 years ago my Jag would still have lots of nice thick paint instead of being polished to the point of near-failure.

Did/Do you pay around the $60 ball park figure? Or More/less?

This is my bill direct from Gilmour roughly:

              75QGFMR Fmaster Gun - 1Qt - Variable $38.65
              AS1FFM Full Flow Valve - Metal $7.50
              09QC Brass Qck Connects M+ F $6.50
              09QM Brass Qck Connects M 2pck $5.00

              Tax $3.46
              S+H $6.86

              Total - $67.97

I probably wouldnt get the Full-Flow valve, or at least not that one. It doesnt quite work right with the Foam Gun. But ordering a few extra quick connects is kinda handy.

Cool thanks! I was prepared to get little to no response on something like this, but it doesn't look like I'd be the only one using one either.

Murr, how do you use the Shampoo plus? Do you pre-mix like the others above, or put the right amount into the bucket? Curious how other users use it...

Well, between the dilution of the water/soap mixture in the container, and the variable mixing valve, you can really play with the dilutions.

I just put one ounce+a little of soap in the jar, fill with water to near the top, and put the brass valve at one of the low dilution settings, like 1/20 or so. It is a bit higher than the recomended dilution, but seems to put out a lot of soap.

Seems good so far, though you could always use lower dilutions. I use about one container for the car.

Just to add with my bill, I would swing past the Gilmour site, and pick out the quick connects, etc you want to use for your garden accesories, unless you already use another company, since different companies, and different styles within Gilmour arent always compatible. It really is handy to use quick connects on your sprayer, nozzle, grass sprinkler, etc. Just get a female connector (and spare if you want), and all the male connectors you need.

                  EDIT:

If you are worried about dilution, you could also try Hyper Wash. It has a higher dilution rate, so one ounce of it would keep a lot lower dilution compared to Shampoo Plus. I have thought about it, but havent tried it yet. Maybe once I run out of the Shampoo Plus.

Just to add, I still use the 2-bucket system as well. One rinse water bucket obviously, but also a soap bucket. I dont put the full amout of soap in it, just another ounce maybe, just to keep the sponge wet and with soap in it.

How did you buy the foam gun directly from Gilmour? I looked on gilmour.com and didn't see a way to order. That price is much cheaper than the prices the online detail shops are offering.

I think you have to call them. Check for a contact page, and call them up, tell them you are looking to order some things.
