  • How to get dried wax off of trim?

I have a question concerning dried wax on plastic trim.

This past weekend, I did a "quick" waxing of my Xterra using the NXT wax. At the time, everything looked great! But, the next day I noticed that I had touched my gray plastic trim on my door. Now, I have a white blotch of dried wax that I can not get off. I have used Deep Crystal Paint cleaner, dish soap (because I heard that it is good to use to strip wax), and I even went as far as using a citrus based cleaner ( I didnt want to use something that could damage the plastic) along with my roommates toothbrush for scrubbing purposes (just kidding) without any results.

The plastic trim is gray in color and is slightly textured if this helps...

Does anyone know of any products / techniques that might help with this problem??

      Hey,

Meguiar's #39 Heavy Duty Vinyl Cleaner is an excellent product and should remove the dried wax on the plastic trim.

Another product I highly suggest is Meguiar's Gold Class Trim Detailer. Apply the product using a toothbrush and really work it in. Leave it on for a few minutes, then wipe off excess with a dedicated MF towel.

      Keep us posted!

I've got an 03 Mach 1 Mustang with the Shaker hood scoop. While waxing with my PC, I slung some NXT onto the Shaker. It's metal, but is painted with a black crinkle type paint. What can I use to remove the wax from the porous surface, while not harming the Shaker paint? Is the Vinyl Cleaner safe for use on paint? Thanks everyone!

                Hi Matt,

I got some overspray of #39 on the paint of a car recently, but it didn't seem to hurt anything that I could tell.

If you decide to use #39, then I would rinse it off quickly after aggitating it with a brush.

Use peanut butter and a toothbrush

Check out this pic of dried wax on the lower windshield crescent:

With a little p.b. and some rubbing, it came right off

I have heard of a dye you can use to if your trim is discolored any used this before?
