  • GOLD CLASS car wax

i have a 2005 ford falcon XR6 that i want to wax.I have been told that some waxes can react with some paint protectors that have been apllied by car dealers. I am unsure if my car has had a paint protector apllied from the first owner of the car. Some people that i have spoken to have suggested i use "MEGUIARS GOLD CLASS"clear coat liquid car wax. How good is this wax? will it harm my paint if a paint protector has been apllied to the paint?

I always thought those "paint protector" applications were nothing more than a good polymer sealant applied by, on occassion, a professional but more commonly by just some guy at the dealership.

If so, then I suppose you could say applying a good cleaner or cleaner/wax would, in fact, remove this "paint protector". Then again, if they truly are just polymer sealants then they'll ultimately behave like any wax/sealant/lsp - that is, they'll be the sacrificial barrier and wear/wash off over time anyway. This is also why they need to be refreshed every so often. Just a fancy way of saying "you need to wax your car once a year, but we don't use the word "wax", we call it a "paint protector"".

    Uh, yeah. Sure.

Go ahead and treat your car to the best Meguiar's 5 step approach you can muster. It will look beautiful for years to come, and you'll be smiling proudly every time someone asks you how you got that amazing shine.

Oh, I almost forgot....welcome to MOL!!

why do you prefer the paste rather than the liquid?Do you get the same finish with paste/liquid waxes?which one is easier to use?

Gold Class is a very good wax, though all of Meguiars waxes have their own properties, so some look different, last differently, etc.

Liquid vs. Paste wax just comes down to personal preferance. You want to apply thin coats of wax, and some people get thinner coats with liquid, others get thinner coats with paste. One important thing to consider is that if you get dirt on your pad, you can get the dirt stuck in the paste wax, where as dirt never gets into the liquid unless you are really carelss.

dealer "protectant" = spray wax. I would detail like any other vehicle.
            wash, clay, polish, wax.

Gold Class paste wax is the way to go. GC wax looks better on darker colors. NXT looks great on Silver up to white. Both are great waxes though. Liquid wax (I guess) is for arthritis sufferers, I dont see any other benefit than ease of application. They both have to be removed the same: Wax on, Wax off
Paste wax just seems like the better route.

Gold Class liquid wax and GC wash got me into detailing. GC wax was the first wax I've ever used. I have a white truck and after using it, it revealed a glossy finish. It's a very good wax to start off with and I was very happy with it, plus it's got a good scent. It's a carnauba wax so it does have resistance in wiping off and will probably have white dust from buffing off the product after it hazes.
Edit: I just used GC wax 2 days ago and it has very little resistance in wiping off and I noticed very little dusting.

Welcome to Meguiar's online btw, you will find a lot of information here.

Welcome! I love the GC, and I use Liquid-less chance of something getting into it, then onto the applicator (like dust or something blowing into the tub of paste, which could scratch the paint if it makes it onto the applicator). I used to use paste, and liked it also, I just had a problem once where some dry pieces of leaves blew into my tub of paste and I had to ditch it because I was afraid I wouldnt get all the bits out. I think the GC is great on darker colors especially, since they are naturally reflective and the GC really highlights it.
