  • Dealer scratches

While my BM was in the dealership for a service, they put it through a carwash and it has put scratches into the hood.
They are trying to say that they were already there Which I know they were not. I dont trust them to fix it so I am giving it a go myself.
These scratches cant be felt with my fingernail and are in the clear coat.
I managed to remove 80% of them with #82 and my orbital and there are only a few others left to remove.

I was thinking of using #83 DACP to remove the remaining scratches, dose this sound OK.

I dont have any pro advice for you but know how you feel . .I got my car painted and it came back to me WITH swirls ... a burn through the clear coat .. deep scratches in the roof .. a wierd paint pattern on the trunk lid that looks like it was done with a brush .. and really bad looking fender marks all over as well as still exposed red paint from the old color ..

For your swirls I would check out the extreme makeover section and see if theres pictures of similar swirls that your car has and compare the before/afer and follow in the footsteps of the product they used.

Is your orbital buffer a Porter Cable Dual Action Polisher? If so going over the car once or probably twice with the buffer and #83 should do the job. (If it doesn't, take the car to a good detailer and have him buff it out with a rotary buffer.) Follow the #83 with #82 and then a good sealant or wax.

If your orbital is one of the old Waxmaster styles it still may work, but it take a lot more "passes" with the buffer. I've used a Waxmaster style buffer to remove scraches in the past and have had to make as many as 8-10 passes.

      Good luck.

I have damage to 3 dented in and scraped right side body panels and 1 left side body panel on my Jag, the rest of the paint is pristine. I think before the parts are in, I will do the best I can do to the panels as they are and take direct sun shots, so there will be no argument.

I can relate. When I had my car in the shop for warranty work, I requested they do not wash the car. So, they rinsed it off with heavy mineralized water and let it sit in the sun for a couple days. As I approached the car, it looked like little tiny droplet sized rainbows over the entire car, including side panels. I swore I had chromatic paint, on a black finish!

Since they didn't fess it up or set it straight on the first opportunity I gave them, I got back at them in the best way I could. I ruined their reputation in the local Club (of which I used to be heavily affiliated with) and took away at least two dozen cars of my better friends who were local that went there for anything.

Took me 7 hours by hand to get the car back to pristine again.

I plan to request them to not touch, clean, or otherwise molest my other panels. I have only a small doubt they will screw up and do it anyway.

          Thank's for the reply's guy's
Unfortunatly I dont have a PC. My buffer is a single speed 9.5" head 3000rpm random orbital buffer.
I managed to remove about 80% of the scratch marks with 3 passes with #82 swirl free (then waxed with NXT for protection intill I can try again with #83)
I have just ordered #83 DAPC from meguiars UK so hopefully this will remove the rest.

          The plan of attack for next weekend is now;
          Wash with Gold class shampoo,
          Clay with Quik Clay,
          #83 DACP + orbital,
          #82 SFP + orbital,
          NXT x 2,
          #16 x 2

I bought my buffer for $40 and I think it's great value for money.
I think I will look into getting a PC in the next few months.

            Hey,

Meguiar's #83 DACP will definitely help. As Tom mentioned, it may require a few passes to eliminate most of the swirls; but, some may not come out with an orbital. In the future, you really should look at getting a PC as it will help tremendously.

            Cheers!
