  • New Car .... First Detailing

I'm going to detail my new car for the first time this weekend. It's a 2006 Infiniti G35. Here is list of what I've purchased for the job:

    Meguiars #36 Wheel Cleaner
    Meguiars #00 Hi-Tech Wash
    Meguiars #20 Polymer Sealant
    Meguiars #26 Hi-Tech Liquid Wax
    Wolfgang Polishin’ Pal Clay Disc
    Wolfgang Polishin’ Pal
Wolfgang Polishin’ Pal: Gray Finishing Foam 4" Pad
Wolfgang Polishin’ Pal: White Polishing Foam 4" Pad
Cobra Super-Plush Deluxe Microfiber Towel: 6 Pack Cobra Super-Plush Deluxe Towel
    Cobra Microfiber Gloves/ Pair
    Cobra Waffle Weave
    Microfiber Glass Towel

I'm going to wash and clay the car first. Then I plan on applying 1 coat of #20, and then 1 coat of #26 by hand using the Wolfgang polishing pal. I've used the hi-tech liquid wax but not the polymer sealant.

I just have a couple of questions. First should I use a polish before the sealant? The car is brand new and there are no obvious marks or blemishes. Second, do I have the right products for a new car?

    Thanks

I am not familiar with the Wolfgang products, but I am guessing the clay disk is some sort of detailing clay?

Even on a new car, it is nice to get everything off to the right start, so covering all 5 steps of the 5-step system is best.

    Meguiar's 5-Step Paint Care Cycle

    Step 1 Wash

    Step 2 Clean

    Step 3 Polish

    Step 4 Protect

    Step 5 Maintain

So, you could still use some sort of paint cleaner, and polish, and then any quick detailer or spray wax you wanted to maintain the look in the future.

You would probably want something like #80 Speed Glaze or #82 Swirl Free Polish and the #7 Show Car Polish if you wanted to follow up with a pure polish.

    So:
    1. Wash
    2. Clay
    3. Clean/Polish with #80 or #82
    4. Polish with #7 if wanted.
    5. Wax with #20, or #26, or both.

I think I have a bottle of #7 Show Car Polish. The wolfgang clay disc fits on the polishing pad. The polishing pad helps keep your fingers from cramping, or so they claim. Thanks for the input.

I did a little Googling of the product, I see now that it is a hand applicator, not a machine like I guessed.

That does change my thoughts slightly.

You still want to cover all 5 steps, but the products would change.

You could apply a very mild cleaner like Deep Crystal #1, which works great by hand. Deep Crystal Polish #2 or #7 will both go on nice by hand.

It also seems like you would be able to use any of the Meguiars clays with it as well.

You can use the same waxes of course.

Yeah, the clay kit comes with a plastic disc that you spread the clay across. I've used clay by hand before, so I'm hoping it will be easier to use. I have an orbital buffer that I can use with the #7 Show Car Polish.

          Thanks Again!

The Polymer sealant should be more then enough as far as waxing is concerned.
Doing a polymer sealant followed by the hi-tech might be a bit of overkill.
You could probably yield the same results with just one coat of the synthetic sealant (21)
Or 2 coats of the polymer..

It worked perfectly. It really keeps your hands from cramping. I used to apply the clay, polish, sealant and wax. Well worth the money.
