  • New car, small scratch line

Picked up a new 06' Sonata yesterday, and noticed a 18" light scratch line down the hood. I have a PC w/ most of the chemicals, but have only used them a couple of times on two other vehicles. I would probably be ok removing these myself but wasn't sure if I need to wait 6 weeks for the paint to cure? It may be easier to remove now, but also easier for me to mess up the paint as well. Dealer said they would take care of it, but I just see pictures of swirls in my head...

    Hi Mike,

I would take care of it myself!

If the car has not be re-painted and it is factory paint, then it will be cured already. If in doubt call the dealer for verification.

    I would suggest using Meguiar's:

#83 DACP and a W-8006 Polishing Pad with the PC set to speed 5

This may take a few passes. Work slowly with about 15 lbs of presssure on the PC.

    Follow this with:

#80 Speed Glaze on a clean W-8006 Polishing Pad, PC set to speed 5

Top with 2 coats of NXT Tech Wax applied with a W-9006 Finishing Pad, PC set to speed 3. Removed with a Gold Class MF bonnet over a W-7006 Cutting Pad, PC set to speed 5.

With that said, keep in mind that the PC is a really Mild tool and may not remove the scratch depending upon how deep it is.

Give that a try and let us know how it turns out!

It's a very light scratch, but you can 'just' feel it with your fingernail. I'm wonder if I should try just #80 first to see if it removes it before going to #83. I don't have NXT, but I have #7 and #21, so I'll probably use one of those, or both

      Thanks for the detailed instructions!

        Hi Mike,

Meguiar's always teaches to use the least aggressive product first. So if you have #80, give it a try. You never know until you try! If that does not work, move up to the #83 DACP, then step back down with the #80. Be sure to use a clean pad per product.

        Please keep us posted!
