I'm having a horrible time keeping my dad's van swirl free. A few months ago I prepped the entire vehicle with a wash and clay. Then used #9 then followed up with #26. A week later I washed the vehicle and noticed the the swirls were back. So I reapplied #26 and the swils looked better. Asking around at a different forum, I was told that I stripped the wax. When I finally got a hold of some NXT, I started all over. I used two coats of #9 and drove the car back into the sun and verified that there were little to no swirls left. Then applied NXT, the results were fantastic. I thought the problem was soved but now only 2 weeks later the swirls are back but the shine, depth and reflectivity are still there. I'm really not mocking the products, in fact I want to buy more. My truck, my dad's expidition, and my brother explorer had the #9,#7,#26 treatment and are still working great and its been ~3 months. Sorry for the long post but it was frustrating me. The only difference I can think of is that the van is a GMS and the other three are fords. Hope someone can help.

Hey,
What are you washing the vehicle with? What brand of soap? What type of mitt are you using? How are you drying the paint after you have finished washing it?
Very often, the method of washing and/or drying leads to the return of swirls. But sometimes what people are seeing is "towel marks". Meaning, you dry the finish with a towel and it leaves very fine marring.
Just some ideas.

Thanks 2hotford, I'm using Meguiar's Gold Class Shampoo and Conditioner. I use the same technique on the other vehicles and have not induced swirls on those vehicles. In fact this weekend I washed all four vehicles and three of the four looked great and it was just the van that has the swirls. It is just puzzling to me.

Hey,
The problem could be that the swirls were not totally removed.
Or-
Some paint is harder than others while some paint is much softer. As a result, some paints will swirl very easily while others hardly show a mark. It can be very frustrating to say the least.
On the GM, I would be sure to use the same soap and a sheepskin mitt. Then dry the car with a Waffle Weave Microfiber Drying Towel.
This should help a bit.
