  • Applying Vinyl Decals

Well I am putting some new vinyl decals on my truck and I need a little help from you guys just to have some advice. First off which product would you advise I use to remove all the wax from the area that I am going to be applying the decal as I have heard that you don't want anything in that area. I wasn't sure which product would do this the best. Would it just be a cleaner wax?? Also for those that have applied vinyl decals before how do you keep the decal from sticking to the backing when you are pulling the sheets apart for application? Part of the decal sticks to the backing side and I can't seem to get it to stick with the application side even after rubbing the area hard to try and get it to stick. Hopefully you know what I am talking about here...lol Thanks for any help though.

use a 50/50 water and alcohol mix to clean the area

    things you will need:
    small razor knife
    spray bottle 50/50 alchohol/water
    squegee
    microfiber

you need to tape the graphic (backing still on) to the truck in the spot you want it positioned

put tape on each end, enough to hold it tight but not to much you cant move it to line it up correctly.

when you get it lined up and secure, put about 5 strips of tape vertically across the middle of the graphic, this will create a hinge. you will do one half at a time.

untape one end and score the backing at the hinge in the middle.
peel away the backing ( remember only half at a time) and spray with your alcohol mix. on the graphic and on the surface of the truck.

grasp the end of the 1/2 of the graphic and pull taunt and straight while laying it on the surface of the truck. if you make a mistake or it buckles the soapy water will allow you to reposition it.

when it is in the spot you want, squegee it down working from the hinge to the end of the graphic in a vertical v pattern which should look like this " > " middle to back and like this "<" middle to front.

once it is applied trim it by the body gaps, fuel door, also from the cab i would run it around the back of the cab a little ( maybe 1/2 " around", rather than cut it on the edge.

then wipe it down with a microfiber, after a couple minutes being careful as the

well hope it helps you somewhat, its easy to do when you have the practice, but kind of hard to explain
