  • Removing Swirls

I've been reading the last couple of days how to remove swirl marks, have purchased Swirlx and other fine Meguiar's products to do the job this weekend, but i have a question.

When applyind the Swirlx to the applicator pad, should the pad be damp or dry? And does it change if i'm using the foam pad versus a micro fiber or terry pad?

    thanks

    Hi Brian,

    Welcome to Meguiar's Online!

With the Meguiar's line of product, you don't pre-moisten your hand applicator pads with water or other products, this would dilute or adulterate the product you're going to use.

You can use foam, microfiber, or 100% cotton applicators when applying ScratchX, (You did mean ScratchX and not SwirlX?)

Removing swirls and scratches out of a clear coat finish using ScratchX is really about using the right technique, you need to work the product against the finish, not merely wipe it on and then wipe it off.

Afterwards you need to apply a wax because ScratchX is not a protecting product but merely a defect removing product.

Thanks for the fast repy Mike.
I did mean Scratchx! My bad. So then even with the wax as the last step don't moisten the applicator?

I did a small area on my car last night to try it out, and it works amazing! I did dampen the foam applicator though. I/m going to start tonight on the car. There aren't a lot of swirls, so i'm hoping it only takes me 10 hours or so!

      thanks

Don't moisten your applicators with anything, just use the products straight out of the bottle, tube or can.

Remember, when removing defects by hand, work a small section at at time, about the size of a wash rag. Overlap your sections, that is each new section your work should include some of the previous section in it for uniform material removal and thus a uniform appearance when your finished.

ScratchX doesn't need to dry, apply, work in, remove. Repeat if necessary.

Remember the defect removal step is the most important step. If you don't remove the defects in the first step, they will be there at the last step, so put your time and effort plus your perspiration and inspiration into the cleaning step.

Follow up with one or two coats of wax and your car's paint should look great when your finished.
